Weekend Full Freeway Closure of I-94 at Rawson Ave - Fri 5/17 9 PM to Sun 5/19 9 AM
As part of I-94 N-S Freeway Reconstruction Project, WisDOT will be installing a Storm Sewer Culvert across I-94 approximately 500 feet north of the Rawson Avenue Interchange in Milwaukee County.
To accomplish this work, WisDOT will be closing I-94 WEST (NB) from 27th Street (Racine/Milwaukee County line) to College Avenue, and I-94 EAST (SB) from Rawson Avenue to Drexel Avenue for 36 hours starting at 9 P.M. on Friday, May 17, 2013 to 9 A.M. on Sunday, May 19, 2013.
The detour routes that can be used during this extended hour full freeway closure of I-94 are:
•   Traffic on I-94 WEST (NB) will be directed to exit at 27th Street (at Racine/Milwaukee County Line) and head north to College Avenue, turn right (east) on College Avenue and continue east to access the I-94 WEST (NB) entrance ramp.
•   Traffic on I-94 EAST (SB) will be directed to exit at Rawson Avenue, head west on Rawson Avenue, turn left (south) on to 27th Street and continue south to the I-94 EAST (SB) entrance ramp at Racine/Milwaukee County Line.
Additionally, the Westbound Airport Spur (Highway 119) will be closed to traffic exiting the General Mitchell International Airport during this full closure of I-94. Detour routes for traffic exiting the airport will be as follows:
•   Traffic wanting to travel to I-94 WEST (NB) towards Downtown Milwaukee will be directed to exit the airport to Howell Avenue, turn right (north) on Howell Avenue and head north to Layton Avenue. Turn left (west) on Layton Avenue and continue west to the I-94 WEST (NB) entrance ramp.
•   Traffic wanting to travel to I-94 EAST (SB) towards Chicago will be directed to exit the airport to Howell Avenue, turn left (south) to Howell Avenue and head south to Drexel Avenue. Turn right (west) on Drexel Avenue and continue west to the I-94 EAST (SB) entrance ramp.
•   Traffic wanting to travel to I-43/894 WB towards Madison/Beloit will be directed to exit the airport to Howell Avenue, turn right (north) on Howell Avenue and head north to Layton Avenue. Turn left (west) on Layton Avenue and head west to 27th St. Turn right (north) on 27th St and continue north to the I-43/894 WB entrance ramp on the right.
Please note that multiple exit and entrance ramps to/from I-94 will be closed at nearby interchanges to help reduce congestion on the freeway during this closure.

Please click here for thr alernate route map during the 36-hour full freeway closure.
Please note the work is weather dependent.
Thank you for your patience during the project's roadway closures.

It's a pretty incredible process at the Rawson Avenue interchange.

If you drive past, sections of the new Rawson Avenue overpass are being constructed on both sides of the freeway. Once completed, the sections of bridge will be transported onto I-94 and then hoisted into place. The technology to do this came out of NASA and the shuttle program.

So instead of taking travel lanes for long periods of time, I-94 will have to be shut down for a short amount of time.

timing sucked

Complain when it takes too long, complain when it happens when it needs to.

Ironic that you call out poor timing when posting on a thread that hadn't been active for 10 days.

Not ironic, just stating an opinion when I saw it.  Don't live on the board in the summer.
