Women's Team Profitable (Old MU Trib Article)

Women’s basketball was the only other sport at Marquette to make a profit — $118,336 in the same fiscal year.

I guess I always assumed the women's team was a loser and was kind of shocked Terri Mitchell almost makes $450K. Do they get BEAST revenues or how does it work? From the games I have been to in the past, there doesn't seem to be enough paying fans to generate a profit. Nor do I notice them on national tv a lot. Anyone have any insight?

Complete speculation on my part (and thus not quite "insight"), but I would assume they're getting BEAST credits, in which case UCONN must rake enough for the entire conference.  If not, ND puts out a solid product, as do other "Old" Big East teams.
The Flutie Effect: "A significant and positive correlation between a university having a successful team and higher quality of incoming freshmen, alumni donations, and graduation rates."

Wow, Mitchell gets 14% of team revenue?  And when does she ever get into the top 25?  A little too much love there.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

I always wondered if women get money for making the NCAA tournament like the men.  I figure since ESPN pays something to show the tourney, that there would be some type of payday.  Anyone know how much the women get for making the tourney?
