Don't know if a post has already been made but Winters, a milwaukee native, is transferring from Duquesne. As a freshman he did quite well. I think he would be a good get at 6-5 205pds.

Also... "205pds"? really?

Clam Crowder

Yeah considering Van is 6-4 200...6-5 205 was in there to show he's a pretty comparable player in that position. my bad...lol

We need another catchy name to replace Vander Blue

A refresher.

This is the guy from Washington HS who bumped an official and was suspended part of his senior year.  He wanted to go to Baylor but couldn't get in and went the prep school route...and then went to Duquesne.

I guess you do not believe that people can become more mature.

No evidence of that on this Board!

Just checked out some more information about Quevyn Winters and thought I would share...

ESPN Insider about his transfer:
"Of all the newcomers to the Atlantic 10 in 2012-13, Quevyn Winters had one of the more promising seasons. The former Baylor commit decided to join Duquesne last spring, becoming a pivotal piece in the program's rebuilding process under new coach Jim Ferry. Along with Derrick Colter and Jeremiah Jones, the core of Ferry's first recruiting class proved promising, and there was hope that their second season on the Bluff would yield a vast improvement in terms of the team's development and also in the conference standings. It was a surprise, then, to learn that Winters, a 6-foot-5 wing who converted 54 percent of his twos and 38 percent of his threes (and whose percentage of shots taken ranked third on the team), intended to transfer.

According to various accounts, a death in Winters' family during the season influenced his decision, and the soon-to-be-sophomore is seeking to attend a school closer to his Milwaukee home. It will be interesting to see what programs begin to stand-out for the star frosh; certainly Winters demonstrated he could be a feature player on a non-BCS squad, but since he seems like the prototypical 'switchable', a term coined by coach Buzz Williams to define players who can play multiple positions on the court, might Winters be a fit at Marquette? Although there was a feeling among Dukes' supporters that Winters relied too often on his perimeter shooting, he has proven he has the potential to be a consistent three-point threat, and his ability to get to the rim off the bounce fits Williams' gameplan of an efficient offense being generated by consistent paint touches. There will undoubtedly be other schools in the mix for Winters, so we will continue to pursue any additional programs that might become a potential college home for the wing."

Here is the scouting report on Winters from 2012:
Strengths:
A skilled instinctive talent with excellent length and a versatile offensive package that includes an ability to knock down the mid range jumper and an ability to hit the three point shot as well. Sees the floor well and has the ability to distribute the basketball as well.

Weaknesses:
Decision making could stand to improve in terms of shot selection. Decent handles which need to improve along with his athleticism and explosion both laterally and vertically to take the next step as a prospect.

Bottom Line:
The native of Wisconsin can score. Winters plays hard and has solid rebounding instincts. A solid overall floor game is his trademark with an ability to score the basketball inside and outside. With continued improvement of his shot selection, athleticism, and ball handling, stock should continue to grow both regionally and nationally. Winters is a strong wing with a body that will be ready for college play should he lock down his academics.

Sounds like an intriguing prospect IMO. Solid, big guard/wing that looks to have a good shot. I personally am in favor of securing great role players and continuing to build on success of recruiting and developing talent from MKE. FWIW, I think one thing that should not be overlooked is that fact that he was recruited (and committed) to High Major in Baylor, a school that has recently recruited some serious talent...

I never made a statement of judgement.  Just giving people a refresher on who he was because he was talked about on this board previously.  If Buzz wants him, I have no trouble bringing him here.

Guard is a far more pressing need for next year. That said, Winters likely wouldn't be eligible for 2 years.

Otule is the one true center on the team. Gardner is a bonafide PF. And until I see McKay block or change opponents shots consistently, PF listing for him too. An athletic 6'11" or 7 footer could bring championship, especially with JUCO experience, ready to contribute.

Bring on the Mayo....if Todd is back. I am pulling for this kid. He can hit a jump shot if used.

Not in our offense he isn't. Gardner and Otule combined for 39.2 mpg this past year. Where is a center going to fit with them both here? McKay is more of a PF, but that's also how most here see Steve Taylor, so there's already a logjam at that position as well.

If you include Jamil Wilson and Deonte Burton as forwards, those 6 players in the front court have an average of 2.5 years of experience. On the other hand, between Derrick Wilson, Duane Wilson, Jajuan Johnson, Todd Mayo, and John Dawson, our back court has an average 0.8 years of experience.

So what's the more immediate need? The front court where we have 3 seniors and a junior in the rotation, or the backcourt where right now at least two freshmen will seemingly have to play? Nothing would benefit next year's team more than an experienced grad student transfer or a ready-to-play JUCO at the guard positions. Chris Frazier, Jerron Granberry, Justin Edwards, or Antonio Barton all fit our needs more than a Tarik Black or Josh Smith.

I'd really like Smith, but only if Jamil is able to slide down to the 2. Can he do that? Maybe. If not, then a guard is absolutely what we need. We need experience now at the 1/2 positions. Another center would only get lost in the shuffle and likely be a project for 2014/15 when Oxtule has graduated.

This could be a good player to be named later from the kid that was creaned and turned out to be good for dusquesne, forgot his name.

What were is numbers last year?  Might be a good pick-up for UWM or Green Bay?  If he could not get into Baylor, which is surprising, he might have problems getting into MU?

Time to make another point.

If Todd would have duplicated his frosh 3pt% this year, he would have finished tied with Trent Lockett for second on the team...behind Jamil.

I am struggling with why people here feel that he is some sort of shooter.  He has showed no consistency whatsoever from the outside since he has been here.

His minutes haven't been consistent, either. Especially last season.

This board kills me. It was too soon to write off Vander after two seasons, but perfectly fine to kick dirt on Mayo's career after 1.5 seasons.

Vander leaving is a big break for Todd, I want to see what he does with it.

I didn't mention last season.  I mentioned the season before.

And I'm not kicking dirt on Mayo's career at all...and I am certainly not saying that he cannot improve...but I'm not going to proclaim him something he isn't.  The idea that he is some sort of skilled jump shooter simply isn't accurate.

And I would also point out that those who judged Vander after his freshman year...after his sophomore year...and even after some point this year, were proven wrong.  Wonderfully, deliciously wrong.

BCHoopster

How Buzz coaches, it is hard to get into a rhythm for the subs, play 2 to3 minutes and get pulled, you better make your first shot or your down for the count.  I can see Todd playing
25-28 minutes which should give him ample opportunity to get into the flow of the game, it is his job to lose.

Really?  Are we *still* complaining about how Buzz uses subs???

Jesus Fr*ckin' Christ...you'd think after the past three seasons that we would cut the guy a break.
