Does anyone have any insight as to this kid? Tan Tommy just offered, but I feel like we were ahead of the game with him, recruiting before his large jump in the rankings this past year. Kid is a monster and I would be hard pressed to take Looney over him given our needs up front in the future.

1.  We have (at least) four scholarships opening up for 2014, so we won't have to decide between Okonoboh and Looney.  We're probably not in the running for Looney anyway.  Not because I don't think that MU is a good enough program for Looney, but because the scuttlebutt seems to be that he wants to be out on his own away from home for whatever time he has before he goes to the NBA.  He has numerous schools with legitimate NC aspirations from which to chose.

2. Okonoboh played last year with Nerlens Noel, and is reported to have a similar game, including being raw offensively.  Close, but considered not quite the defensive intimidator that Noel is.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

The two are not mutually exclusive.  With 4 or more scholarships open for the 2014 class - come one come all!  Dare to dream!

As I've said before, a key to getting Goodluck (his first name) Okonoboh will be Warriorchick agreeing to allow him to compete in the coolest named opponent contest even though he would be a Marquette recruit.

My point wasn't really that we would have to choose, I was getting more at the fact that Okonoboh would be my top priority if I were Buzz. Trust me, I have been dreaming of a class of Okonoboh, Looney, Paul White, and Ahmed Hill.

Looking at his list (http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Goodluck-Okonoboh-116530) the only schools that would seem to have a better shot would be UConn, Cuse, and maybe Pitt. Indiana seems to be getting in pretty late.

Looney is legit. You'd want him.

I don't think it's that MU was ahead of the game - it's more that I4 has picked up their interest in a kid who is now a 2014.

Goodluck was originally a 2013, had interest from numerous schools - high majors, but a lot of middle of the pack types. Really limited offensively. Last year w/BABC in EYBL he didn't shoot. Great shot blocker (although foul trouble was common), good defensive rebounding...

Great upside.. some of it starting to look realizable now, but he is a shot blocker.

Played with Nerlens Noel in HS; in addition to BABC he played w/Mass Rivals last summer IIRC. He then switched high schools last fall. He's showing more offensively and proving himself without Noel.. that's part of why there is increased interest... but, if you're trying to debate him and Looney, different guys and you give the nod to Looney easily. Kevon is a versatile stud. Goodluck is a shotblocker with upside.

Goodluck has a decent chance of picking up more offers from the elites as time goes on. His reclassification was for that purpose - i.e., basketball opportunity related as opposed to academics.

Thanks for the info Jay Bee. I realize Looney is legit and definitely want him at MU. But I would like to prioritize landing an interior post presence.

When I read the title of this thread I thought it was about a small town in Wisconsin.  Sounds like it could be one.

Adding his first name wouldn't have helped... lol

Okonoboh is a center and a defensive anchor, and Looney wants to play on the perimeter and not as a center in a small lineup such as what we've done in the past (although Looney isn't really "small"). They could both be in one team's recruiting class.

Again, I am well aware of this fact. My only point was is terms of ranking targets in terms of priority.
