Nice article in this mornings JS about Duane, who is player of the year, and his fellow first team all staters.  Can't wait to see his contribution next season.  Banner times for WI HS BB players.

Who here knows Stone's true height? That picture makes him look closer to 6'8 than 6'10

Of the five in this picture ....

Duane Wilson - MU bound
Jamaar McKay - Brother of MU recruit Jaymeel McKay
Kevon Looney - MU target
Diamond Stone - MU target

So where is Deonte Burton?

He definitely looks more than 2 inches shorter than Fischer, but does look taller than Looney, who is listed at 6-8.

My favorite Duane Wilson stat from the story:

"He averaged 23.8 points, 4.7 assists and 4.5 rebounds. He made 61% (218 of 357) of his shots, including an impressive 55% (55 of 100) from three-point range. "

The NCAA 3-point line is only a tad farther out. Even if he only does three-fourths as well in college, that's 41%.

Not that we desperately need 3-point shooting or anything.

Mmmmmmhmmm..... that's some ubertraditional shooting right there.  Watch his videos, he has perfect form and balance off the catch and the bounce.  Yet there are some still opining for a shooter... I wonder why they aren't ecstatic that Duane is already joining the fold.  Curious as to why they aren't singing Buzz' praises for brining in a shooter they've been harping on for years.  Very curious indeed.

Golden Avalanche

Duane Wilson will be an absolute star on the collegiate level.

Burton didn't really have a stellar year this year.  Part of it is that he had nothing around him at Vincent.

Duane brings DJames athleticism (40" vertical, tomahawk jams in traffic) with some added height and a picture-perfect J.  Not to mention he appears to possess the DJames swagger needed to get minutes from day 1.  Get him to D up like senior year DJames and we have an all-time great on our hands before it's all said and done.  Really excited to have him in the mix next year.

Have not seen this fellow play, but by most accounts, he is a stud, and we need the 3 point shooting. He must start.

This would be my starting line-up/depth chart next year, assuming Blue comes back
PG: Du. Wilson/De. Wilson/Dawson
2G: Blue/JJJ/Mayo
C: Otule/Gardner/McKay
PF: Gardner/Taylor/Mckay
WF: J.Wilson/Burton/Anderson

I know, I know, people will holler that Gardner cannot play PF, but IMO we need Gardner playing minimum of 25 to 30 minutes per game--his offense and FT shooting are very important

Du. Wilson also must start 39 points in the Elite 8 game shows we need more offense, which is why Du. Wilson and Gardner must play a lot. How Buzz keeps all these guys happy with minutes will be a challenge, indeed. Guys like Taylor and McKay, as well as Anderson and Burton will want more time.

Vincent also had very poor coaching.

I think Gardner can and should play some power forward. He is an effective shooter from mid range with soft touch and I liked what I saw when he played facing the basket in the high post.

A lot of "musts" here. If Buzz doesn't listen to you, I guess you'll have to find a program with a coach who will.

As for Duane Wilson starting, I am hoping he shows enough early on to gain Buzz's trust. We know Buzz is a very loyal guy and he already is on record saying Derrick will start next year. A couple of best-case scenarios for Duane:

1. Derrick starts but Duane gets 10-15 minutes spelling him and learning how to play college point as well as another 10-15 minutes as a spot-up 3-point shooter in the same backcourt as Vander and Derrick.

2. Buzz starts Derrick but it soon becomes obvious that Duane is the better option. Duane then gets Junior minutes while Derrick goes back to getting the kind of minutes Derrick is used to.

3. Vander leaves. That departure, along with those of Junior and Lockett (and Mayo?), open up lots of P.T. at guard, meaning Duane, JJJ and Derrick all see plenty of action simultaneously.

4. Vander leaves and Duane and JJJ are so dynamic together that Buzz can't resist giving them the majority of minutes to go with mature frontcourt men such as Gardner, Otule, Jamil, Taylor, Juan and JC transfer McKay.

Who's he going to guard?

Probably only works if we play some zone or against teams without particularly athletic frontcourts that can step out.

You're likely looking at going zone with both Otule and Gardner on the floor. Not sure that would be playing to MU's strengths though.

I played with Duane Wilson when he was a freshmen and I was a senior at Dominican and knew he would be a great player.  He is a gym rat with a great dad who pushes him to becoming a better basketball player.  I think he will be the best PG Marquette will see in a long time

Exactly.  And I'm not sure why you would want to mess with the minutes at the center position anyway...there is so much talent at the wing position.

Thanks for the insight, Tommy. Here's hoping Duane is all that and more!!

Not only is a stud at basketball, but he wants to major in something other than communications. Thats just a huge plus in my eyes. He's gonna be a great role model in general, glad to have him at MU.

Chicos' Buzz Scandal Countdown

I feel like we're maturing as a fanbase a bit. When Vander signed I know quite a few folks who acted like the resurrection of our program was on his shoulders (I was also a little guilty of over-hyping him)... the result was some weird disappointment on a young kid who has delivered the most memorable MU moments since D-Wade, and in my opinion will likely play pro ball after next year.

Point being we are all super excited for this new class (our most talented to date by far) and without the weird hyped up expectations.... it'll be a ton of fun to watch them as freshman and see them develop at MU
