Nah.  If Spike wasn't playing as insane as he was you would have saw Burke come in if Louisville ever took a sizable 7-8 point lead.

crap, I'd be happy with the first half too, you were winning and with the exception of Hancock going nuts for 2 minutes you dominated the game to that point.  People always over-analyze this stuff with shoulda/woulda/coulda, but in the end the best team all tournament/last month of season, won.

The halftime video struck me as a little too high school-ish. As you wrote, Michigan dominated the first half and came out of it with only a one point lead with all the momentum going Ville's way. And Beilein's talk revolved around just being happy they're in the game. I'm sure there was some X/O talk but that was a rah-rah puff piece.

Surely some adjustments needed to be made because you can't rely on Albrecht's wet dream continuing, you've frozen your star player with the rest, and you have to expect the pressure will wear your team down as it does to everyone. Didn't see much other then Burke playing more minutes.

I gathered from last night that Nantz didn't have a dog in the fight and seemed distracted by his favorite event - The Masters ("Welcome friends...")

Anthony was really trying to prevent the entire world from knowing that he wanted MI to win, and still failed.

Nantz seems to get most excited when the white guys are doing well on the court.

But part of that is we have been ingrained with bball culture that these kids can't play, when they absolutely can.  Albrecht was amazing, as was Hancock, the MOP.  I think he's just responding to them coming out of the blue.  And despite some people predicting lottery pick this year for McGary, same thing...he was inconsistent and even craptacular for much of the season, but came out of nowhere in the tournament.  That's going to get announcers excited.  Just so happens the three surprise performances were from Caucasian kids.

I wasn't basing it just on this Final Four.

You mean the way that MU fans go ballistic when guys like Christopherson, Frozena, Thomas, etc. hit a 3?

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Heh...there are so many ways I could comment on this...

Allow me to set the record straight. I predicted a lottery pick for McGary IF he came out this year. I NEVER said he would. I don't know if he will. Kind of like Zeller last year (who maybe should have come out - he looked very soft this March).

I know that if a guy isn't listed on Draft Express, nbadraft.net etc., you don't think he worth a pick. I don't care what a guy did as a freshman in December against IUPUI, but I do care what he did on the big stage against the best 3 months later. I actually watch the games to form my opinions and if that puts me out on an island, so be it.

I like Gottlieb, with his warts and all. And I think he stands out because many "analysts" provide vanilla nothings, which so many of you viewers eat up because it's simple nuggets, and Gottlieb's role is to do the exact opposite.

Regardless, most anyone is better on a college ball telecast than the clown pairing of Smith and Barkley (who is still praising MU's zone defense for shutting down Miami). The real victim here is Greg Anthony who is fast becoming a leading light.

I agree with you on all points. Gottlieb has warts, but he's vastly better than Barkley and Smith. You brought up Barkley praising the Marquette "zone" vs Miami before i could, even though anyone with two eyes could see that MU played man to man all game long. Barkley needs to stay where he belongs and is great, on TNT/TBS commenting on NBA games.

I'm also with you on Greg Anthony, he's really good. I'd have preferred a grouping of say Anthony, Gottlieb, and various college coaches no longer in the turnament.

Gotlieb started his basketball career at ND, and like Digger, because they are both ND homers have no credibilty. Gotlieb should stick to what he knows best, stealing credit cards.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

I watched him say this as well. You would think one of the more accomplished basketball players of all time could see the difference between a zone and man-to-man defense. He was fantastic in the NBA and should stay in his element. Barkley doesn't belong on the college basketball analyst's table.

Also, I just can't support Gottleib. He's incredibly arrogant and I've personally never seen him give credit to MU or many Big East basketball teams when it's due. He may know a lot about basketball but he can't teach it or speak to it.

It doesn't put you on an island, but as the other article I pointed out to you the other day, GMs also want to know why he sucked hard balls for most of the season, despite his size and agility.  Lack of motivation?  Injuries?  Etc?

McGary today decided that he was going back to school, despite several of his teammates coming out early (Hardaway and Burke).  Interesting.   I suspect he will do very well this year.  We'll never know if he was going to be a lottery pick.

All moot now. Don't know why he didn't have a great regular season, though he was a freshman and Belein didn't start him until the tournament. Michigan certainly was a different team with him playing big minutes.
