I thought about scouring the MU Scoop annals for a great old thread to revive, but instead, I just kept coming back to the same conclusion.

Doug Gottleib is the absolute worst ever. EVER.

I think I would take Dickie V, and I can't believe I am saying that, before taking Doug Gottleib.

WORST EVER.

He is so bad, he just said Michigan lost because JB pulled Trey when he had two fouls.  His reasoning for the fact that it was a bad call, he says Trey finished with only 2 fouls.  Hey moron, he finished with 4 fouls.

Wade for President

He's such an arrogant ego-maniac.  Agree...he's become my most hated sports figure.

LAZER

Gottlieb is a definitely a dick and smug and arrogant, but there aren't many analysts out there that know college hoops as well as he does.

His criticism of Beilein handling Burke is definitely fair.  I don't agree with him, but it's a legit point.

MU Fan in Connecticut

I thought that the MUScoopism is that "Gottlieb is a tool."

He corrected himself on the postgame on TruTv.

My wife is an alum and watches every MU game with me. However, she's not crazy, so she doesn't waste any time on message boards or with knowing announcers, analysts, or referees. The point is that she had no idea who Doug Gottleib was until this tournament.

I thought Barkley made some good counterpoints to the Burke argument last night. Hancock made 3 or 4 three pointers in like a minute and a half. It's easy to second guess, but there was almost no time to think of substituting. You can say "call timeout" but are you gonna call time out after two straight made baskets to get a kid in the game with a minute left in the half?

The thing I thought hurt Michigan was Beilein not getting that team calmed down. I mean Albrecht was absolutely unconscious, but the team was so high with like 5 minutes left in the half it looked like they had already won the game. There was no place to go but down...Burke or no Burke.

GGGG

Gottleib creates controversy for the sake of controversy.  He does know basketball...but Belein knows it more and knows his team better.  That was really dumb.

MerrittsMustache

Claiming that Michigan lost because Beilein sat Burke is simply lazy analysis. The guy who replaced him hit 6 of 7 shots and scored 17 points in the half! It's not like the back-up was killing them.

Beilein's gameplan surely did suck in the second half, but the guy has never been known more making adjustments.

All the halftime camera given to Beilein, we was way too happy with the first half, which is ridiculous. His gameplan was not having a rec-league chucker score half your points. That game would have been a blow out if Spike didn't turn into the second coming of Travis Diener for the first half.

Golden Avalanche

I like Gottlieb, with his warts and all. And I think he stands out because many "analysts" provide vanilla nothings, which so many of you viewers eat up because it's simple nuggets, and Gottlieb's role is to do the exact opposite.

Regardless, most anyone is better on a college ball telecast than the clown pairing of Smith and Barkley (who is still praising MU's zone defense for shutting down Miami). The real victim here is Greg Anthony who is fast becoming a leading light.

Just because he takes a contrary viewpoint on a given topic doesn't mean he's any less vanilla than the other analysts.  Maybe French Vanilla.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Clark Kellogg is awful. Almost makes me miss Billy Packer.

+1 - he sure likes the sound of his voice.

Almost is the key word. I was griping about Kellogg on Saturday when he failed to call out the refs and Mrs. Gato said the same thing--he is better than Billy Packer. I eased up on Clark after that.

Both Kerr and Clark made comments about the ineptitude of the officials early last night, but eased back considerably as the game went on. The refs didn't get any better so my guess is that a producer got in their ears.

I guess it's fair, but not really when you consider UM led at the half. They were playing great there w/out him. Why risk bringing him in? I mean, it took 'ville 90 seconds to score like 15 points so....it happened pretty fast.

Nah.  If Spike wasn't playing as insane as he was you would have saw Burke come in if Louisville ever took a sizable 7-8 point lead.

crap, I'd be happy with the first half too, you were winning and with the exception of Hancock going nuts for 2 minutes you dominated the game to that point.  People always over-analyze this stuff with shoulda/woulda/coulda, but in the end the best team all tournament/last month of season, won.

Clark Kellogg thinkg you also made a great point, PRN!

Sincerely,

Clark Kellogg opens every quote by saying "you made a great point"!

FYI - Hancock should have been fouled out w/5 minutes to go! How come nobody is saying this? That foul when he undercut McGary? Please.

I gathered from last night that Nantz didn't have a dog in the fight and seemed distracted by his favorite event - The Masters ("Welcome friends...")

Anthony was really trying to prevent the entire world from knowing that he wanted MI to win, and still failed.

The only people worse than Kellogg are Mike Patrick and Len Elmore.
