Harrison

i know he got a two week excemption from the NCAA but that was about, welll ....two weeks ago.

Coobeys Oil Depot

Now he goes into the vast wasteland that LH went into last year. My guess would be we won't hear anything until the official stamp comes down. I don't think there is an issue, rather, just a matter of the NCAA actually getting to his case.

What will the effect on the team be if TM suffers a slow start similiar to LH due to the time away?

spiral97

actually... I'm pretty sure that the NCAA cleared LH roughly the same time his 2 week practice exemption expired.. but yeah I agree with the "just a mater of the NCAA actually getting to his case" part.  no news is NOT bad news (yet).

He's still able to attend class right?  We all know getting a week or two behind at Marquette would be incredibly tough to deal with, especially for a student athlete.

Harrison

Actually it could be very different than lazar.... that vast wasteland consists of paying one's own way...which lazar did last year...will Treveor be in the financial situation to do the same?

Nearly anybody can get a student loan (hell - that's how I went to Marquette).  Not a big risk if you're sure you can pay it back in about 4 weeks once the scholarship comes through.

Could this be why the team was practicing in the rec center the other day?

Is TM allowed in the AL when he isn't on scholarship? I assume that he would be because walk-on players are obviously allowed in the building... unless there is some technicality that I don't know about.

Maybe the players are playing at the Rec in order to play with TM and keep him sharp?

Anybody know?

became his buddy on facebook today i suppose i could just ask him or leave a subtle comment on his wall?

The team was at the rec center because it doesn't count as an official practice if they are there.  They can play together and scrimmage all they want as long as it's not a real practice.  They can't do that until the day of Midnight Madness.

bc none of you are weird on here

Thomas' Danish Delight

All I know is that I've seen him around campus and in Humphrey cuz I live there, he had his backpack and all, so he's most likely going to class.

No, I don't go onto other people's facebook profiles I have never met, and then ask them questions regarding their future with the NCAA Clearinghouse.

Maybe I can find you and ask you how you did on the ACT.

I guess I believe that... but why didn't they just scrimmage at the Al without the coaches? I always her stories about how Novak would be in the gym (the Al) at all hours working on his shot, and I'm sure that didn't count as an official practice.

They can't all be together at the Al until they can officially practice.  I think individual work there is fine, which is what Novak did.  But even he went to the Rec Center when the rules required it.

Cool. Guess I didn't know all of the technicalities of the NCAA.

this is old and i have not seen anythnig official...no mention of the clearinghouse

http://www.startribune.com/507/story/1404484.html

Trevor Mbakwe, who played for St. Bernard's last year and committed to Marquette, has been able to elevate his grades and will be eligible to play for the Milwaukee university this fall.

mufan924

nice NY thanks for the link hope its legit, looking forward to a player in the lane with some athleticism that can dunk and block, Ooz is great and all but Mbakwe has much more promise & an offensive game, i think he'll get some solid minutes

Interesting to see the blurb on Byrce Webster in the linked article, he is staying at Minny but not playing basketball, guess the theory that he really didn't enjoy the game might have some truth.  Seems odd that a D 1 talent doesn't care to play the game.

Wow... that is interesting. I guess I thought the whole "He doesn't love the game" was just wild speculation and hearsay. I mean, I know we all try to get in player's heads, but at the end of the day they are 18/19 yr olds... so who knows what the truth is.

Anyways, if he doesn't want to play and just wants to go to school... that's cool, I hope he enjoys himself.

I remeber SCott Merritt making a comment in an interview that he did not think he would play basketball after college.
I always complained about observed lack of intestinal fortitude, but you never know some guys are committed and tough although it does not look like it.  But after that comment It was clear that incredible god given talent was to a large degree wasted on Scott. Put Joe Chapman's head on Scott Merrit's shoulders and he would be on the NBA all-star team.
