I think Buzz was  thinking about the players and the crew: exhausted, hungry, etc.

"Why couldn't the NCAA let them stay the night, eat, sleep, then leave in the morning?" was Buzz's complaint.
Adding to his complaint was that the NCAA was about $$$ and not about the players and people who make these games happen.

I'm down with that, Buzz.

I stole the sign below from the 2010 NCAA Tournament.

Just watched the presser.  Absolutely LOVED what Buzz said.  His answer to the NY reporter was respectful and right on target.  In essence "I've got one trick up my sleeve and I'm trying to pass God's Sweet 16 test so I ain't tellin' ya".

Best part was his frustration with the numskull from the NCAA who didn't even know if they played on Thursday..  By NCAA rules the team (all teams) had been kicked out of the Hilton before the game.  I know for certain that 'wheels up' was 1 am for the trip back to MKE.  I think Buzz would have liked it if the NCAA coulda spared "one more hotel night and a hamburger" for his guys.  Just a 'workin' man hatin' on the stuffed suits when he and his guys were dog tired.

Man this guy is awesome.

The two questions Buzz refused to answer .. what did you do differently to guard Clarke in the 2H, how did you do something different in the final 5 seconds that confused Butler ..

The answer to those questions are on game tape, right?  I mean, couldn't a smart basketball coach watch what they did there and learn "the secret"?

I'll be the first to say I know little about X's and O's, but I'd wildly guess that what happened isn't some kind of black magic, and could be understood and roughly duplicated by another team.

Right?

Right. But make them waste an hour watching seeing the subs, analyzing the positioning, etc.

mu_hilltopper

Yeahhhh .. they were going to do that anyhow.

Well then don't give them a free hour in their schedule.  Gamesmanship is gamesmanship. If you don't have to give a free answer, don't.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

Well, then, press conferences would be awfully short.

Except for Buzz and his 9 minute answer about how he wasn't going to answer the question!  ;D

It is classic Buzz.  Gotta love it.  I see nothing wrong.  He is upset and rightfully so with the NCAA for these late night games, followed by mandatory press conferences, etc.  They should get to stay overnight.
He took a long time to answer the reporters question, but was not rude. He could have just said NO.

Nope...it's "traditional" magic.

He is like a man possessed. He has his finger on the pulse of this team, and the team would follow this guy into the depths of hell... and I think I would too. Let the haters hate. This man saw the woman he loves become hospitalized in a strange town and proceeded to out smart (IMHO) the smartest coach in NCAA BBall. The amount of stress this guy went through in 72 hours is absurd, and would have crushed lesser men. Coach Buzz, you're my hero.

While I was getting ready for work, I had the CBS sports channel on, and they showed Coach Larranaga talking to his team after their win yesterday and telling them that they were going back to the hotel to get a good night's sleep and then having breakfast and leaving for Miami this morning.  If that was a NCAA rule, why wasn't Miami following it?
Calvin:  I'm a genius.  But I'm a misunderstood genius.
Hobbes:  What's misunderstood about you?
Calvin:  Nobody thinks I'm a genius.

Did anyone else hear Katz's interview with Davante on ESPN.com?  Davante basically provided the details that Buzz wouldn't divulge.  The kid didn't know any better and was just answering the guy's questions and being polite, but Katz had a crap-eating grin on his face the whole time.  Maybe Katz just always makes that face. I don't know...

If Buzz didn't want to answer it, he could've answered it vaguely. "I'm not sure what part of the situation we did that confused Brad, but we just tried playing good tight d in that situation and whatever we did helped us come out ahead." I'm not the smoothest with words so I will give Buzz a break. The reporters were just doing their jobs and Buzz really seemed to call them out.

I think maybe Buzz got ticked when he followed up with something like "did you move Davante to the ball?" or something that got specific about the strategy.  That follow-up pushed him away from giving a vague answer like you suggested.

...and the Duke/Creighton game started around 10 pm eastern, wonder if they got to stay the night. If not wheels up... what at 4am! Creighton must have touched down around 6 this morning in Omaha
