Butler is favored by 1.5.

Warriors by 1.5

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

The line started at MU as a 2 point favorite to win but has now moved to 1.5.  This indicates that at the original line more people were betting Butler.  The combined points for the final score is expected to be 126.

esotericmindguy

Opened at 2.5. Takes a lot of dough to move it a point.

- means you are favored.

You subtract points from the favored team in order to make both scores equal.

I finally understand -- it's exactly the opposite of what I thought :)

-2 means it would be even if Marquette gave away 2 points to Butler.

+2 means Butler would need 2 free points for it to be even.

Ergo, Marquette is a "two point favorite."

Looks like that was where the lined opened. Marquette is now a 1.5 point favorite.

I believe this means lots of money on Butler? Oddsmakers are trying to draw in more betters on Butler because they believe MQ will win?

Actually they don't "beleive" anything.  They just want the money to balance so if too much is going to Butler they move the line to draw more to MU.
What I've heard is that the smart money on College BBall tends to come in at the very end close to tip.  All this means up till now is that the average bet-er thinks that taking Butler and the points is a good bet and the average bet-er is wrong more than they are right.

That is true to a point, but I imagine astute bettors recognize good value when they see it, even if it's early in the week.

A kingdom wasn't built in the Nevada desert because the oddsmakers are often wrong.

The house rarely loses.  I would guess that Vegas makes most of their money in the gambling area not on the sports books.

brewcity77

Opening line was right. Vegas is making a lot on those early push bets.
