Hey, if he'd love to score 8 points a game on a team that does nothing but shoot 3's and plays at a snail's pace, good luck to him.

lurch91

Is this a "dead period" for recruiting.  If not, Buzz and Chew should be telling Stone you play the season to win in the tournament.

chapman

Ah, when one game supposedly determines a kid's college decision, one game can undo it.   :D

BCHoopster

I just hope he stays in State, MU has a low post offense right now, if he wants to jack up 3's as a center, Wisky might be the choice.  15-58, I think Germantown could have beat
them today.

Difference is, MU alters its offense to suit its talents. Bo refuses to do that.

Excellent point. Bo will try to cram a square peg into a round hole rather than adapt.

Hope to God Kevon and Diamond can see clearly that Marquette is the best place for them to play.  Milwaukee will rock when they're on the roster.  Marquette will be on top of the world.  Not only will they win, but, they will have fun at Marquette and their family, friends and Wisconsin fans will give them huge support!

Or he could go to a blueblood where he will be national television every day and be pumped up by ESPN to elevate his draft status/help his career. But let's not let affect the kids decision when our entertainment is at stake.

Would you tell your kid to turn down Harvard to go to Marquette just so you could see him more often?

With MU Alum having the recent success  with getting drafted into NBA (Zar, JFB, Jae, et. al) I dare to say that MU is as attractive as any school for getting a shot at the NBA.  Sure, some schools put more in the NBA than others.  That's simply the result of having more McD AA's on their squad.

The goal should be to make mu a blue blood. Why would you want to concede anything to any school. There is no reason Marquette can not be a top level program. If you see yourself as less than top notch, then you will always be less than top notch.

Well, yeah. Buzz needs to recruit like that.

But as a fan my opinion doesn't make a difference so I just try to be sane and realistic. No reason to be a homer. I just firmly believe at this point in time it would be better for Stone's career to go to a current blue blood.  It's like fans who say it is in the best interest of a player to stay another year, but in reality most of the time it is just the inability of the fans to get past their own interests.

Not necessarily.  If he goes to MU he starts from day 1, plays major minutes, and gets plenty of exposure in an NBA market.  If he goes to UNC or Kentucky he may be behind one of the top 10 kids from the 2014 class that stick around more than one year.

But if he stays in state, isn't MU more of a blue blood than UW?

Interesting question.  Over the last 15 years, no.  Over history, yes.  Now, if the kid wants to go to the Association, there is only one choice in the state...MU

Interesting indeed. Without reviewing records, etc, I would say MU and Wisconsin have been relatively equal over the last 15 with perhaps an ever so slight nod to Wisconsin for the earlier years.

Overall, though, I'd say the two programs have had relatively similar successes over that time frame.

HoopsMalone

Marquette should be appealing to a big man now, and not just for a chance to play a lot with good guards.  I think that this season should dispel the notion that Marquette wants to play 3 guards and 2 small forwards.  Otule and Gardner show that Buzz wants to get the ball inside if he had the personnel.  The days of Lazar, Jimmy, Crowder, and Jamil playing center for extended periods were outliers because of necessity.

Hopefully Stone sees how he would be used and the opportunities he would have at MU to put up stats if he had the opportunity of being a center in Buzz's offense.  I'm not sure if that is enough to beat out some of the blue bloods, but it should win a tie with Wisconsin that may not have been the case 3-4 years ago.

FF's = Same (1 each)
Elite 8's = UW
Sweet 16's = UW
NCAA Appearances = UW
NCAA wins = UW
Conference titles = UW
Conference tourney titles = UW
Head to head = UW
Wins = Very close last I checked, almost even, though some of those years we played in CUSA
NBA players = MU

We're not that far behind, but they have 15 straight NCAA appearances which I think is like 5th best in the nation.  After sucking balls for 54 years, they have put a nice run together the last 15.

I'm not sure Stone was an engaged fan when he was 2 years old. Who cares about the last 15 years if you're 17? Just look at the last 5.

NBA Players = MU (by a huge majority)
NBA Coaches = MU
NBA Championships = MU

FF's = Same (MU's more recent and way more covered by the media)
Elite 8's = Same
Sweet 16's = MU when we win today
NCAA Appearances = Same
NCAA Wins = MU
Conference titles = MU
Conference tourney titles = Same
Head to head = MU
Wins = MU
SoS = MU
Team trips to NYC = MU

Wisconsin has lost more Rose Bowls as well as coaches to middle-of-the-road SEC schools though
