yea yea it's unlikely but given that they have less time to prepare for a specific opponent than most and the fact that TC isn't exactly a God in March, they could be the one to drop.... this is absolutely wishful thinking.

I'd prefer us beating them to make it to the FF tho

I agree that this year might be the year. IU and Gonzaga both seem to me to be solid candiates for the 1-16 upset. I think both will win, but  I'd place the odds of one of them losing at maybe 10%.

Well, you have a 25% chance of being right.  At some point, at least three #1's are going to fall and potentially all four.

Hope like hell MU takes on IU.  That would be fun.

I read it to be first of the 1 seeds to lose, not lose to #16.  Maybe that's what he meant.  Nate Silver predicts about a 3% chance of losing in the first round.

Nah, my money's on Gonzaga losing to Pitt or Kansas losing to Michigan.  I'd put IU losing to Cuse 3rd in the list of probable 1 seed early exits this year.

klyrish

I might put $10 on the money line tomorrow night that IU gets upset by whoever wins the dishonor of facing The Tan One.

You could be right...having to wait to see who you play isn't ideal.  Buzz addressed that a few days ago.  You prepare for four teams instead of three.  More work, more to absorb, etc.  I would expect a heavy dose of Cody Zeller and keep it simple in that game.

I have Cuse beating Indiana, but I wouldn't be surprised if NC State does it.  Don't think NC State has the team to make a long run, but think they are talented enough to win a game or two.

As a secondary Gonzaga fan (after MU obviously) I have some worries about Pitt in the second round. I think they will give the Zags a lot of trouble.

He said secondary. (And doesn't have a big Zags logo on his MUScoop.com signature that he includes on every single post.)

I've got I4 losing in the 'real' second round / round of 32 game.

Nor does he remind us every other post that Gonzaga is one of his alma maters.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised to see Gonzaga lose to Pitt, IU lose to NC State, or Kansas lose to Nova/UNC. Not picking any of those upsets but I don't think the 1 vs 8/9 match-ups are as much of a given as they have been in years past. Louisville, on the other hand, should walk to the E8.

That said, L'ville will probably lose to NC A&T while the other 1s go to the FF.

I think Saint Louis will be a handful for Louisville if they make it to that game.  They can handle Louisville's pressure and have an inside preesence.  Not saying Louisville will lose, but I'd give Saint Louis at least a 1 in 3 chance of pulling off that upset.  If you don't turn the ball over against Louisville they will have lots of trouble scoring.

When I do my NCAA brackets, I have a hard rule that I always put 1-seeds through to the Sweet 16 and 2-seeds through to the second round. I broke my 1-seed rule this year, but it wasn't Indiana. I think Kansas has a hellacious second game no matter what happens. If they play UNC, the best player on the floor will be wearing Carolina Blue in James Michael McAdoo. UNC is peaking at the right time and had the talent to give the Jayhawks fits. And if they play 'Nova, the Wildcats aggressive pressure would be tough for Kansas' backcourt to handle. I really think KU got screwed in terms of second round matchups for a 1-seed.

Ben McLemore is a better college player than JMM. It's a guard's game.

Its amazing to me how many people are doubting gonzaga.  They are the real deal from what I have seen.

I don't think that people are doubting them, it's a matter of what their seed should be.  Almost everyone thinks they are a really good team.  The problem is they don't play a strong schedule, 87th in the country.  So what happens in the tournament when after playing nobody for 6 weeks they finally have to play solid teams.  They might win all the way to Atlanta, but the skepticism about them is there because such a limited resume.  Put another way, if they played in the Big Ten or Big East, would their record have 2 losses like it does now?  Probably more like 7 or 8 losses, which would mean they would be seeded somewhere around 3rd through 5th....at that seeding they would be a value consideration.  At a 1 seed, there is plenty of skeptics until they perform on the court and advance.

Coleman

I don't doubt Gonzaga. I think they are a really good team and deserving of a #1 seed. They've done everything the committee has asked of them, given their circumstances in the WCC.

That being said, they are just a huge unknown. There's been very few apples to apples comparisons with them against other NCAA tournament teams.

I have seen the Zags in person. I have Pitt bouncing them in a tight one
