Wow is all I can say. Just horrific tonight. Abysmal.

Norm

What do you expect with Burr out there? Same crew as our game last night, right?

injuryBug

corbett was on the court in place of Driscoll.

It is great when the officiating suddenly changes in the final 2 minutes

nyg

Brutal in overtime.  Even announcers were calling them out.

Georgetown lost it on free throw line.  11 for 20, with three being front end of one and ones.

I'd be interested to know MU's record in games in which Jim Burr is on the officiating crew. Anybody know?

Sunbelt15

It totally left Georgetown confused in the overtime.

WayOfTheWarrior

Never have I been frustrated for G-town or Cuse getting bad calls, until tonight. That's how bad it was. Entertaining game otherwise.

Poor officiating has never had an impact on the outcome of a game--it is only an excuse.  Some say.

Some clearly aren't from Richmond.

Groin_pull

It's stunning how pathetic the refs are in college hoops.

Well if you are a Packers fan, then it does *cough cough touch-ception. But generally I would agree with that statement. Officiating is a factor but not a direct win-loss determining one.

officiating has an impact on almost every game in every sport, fortunately it has less of an impact in basketball because of the number of scoring plays
Q: What's the difference between Bo Ryan and God?
A: God doesn't think he's Bo Ryan!!

I've always kinda hated playing in the Big East tourney. Seemed the games were always stacked against us even when we win and TV seems to always get the big matchups they wanted in the Finals.

Whoah. Have to disagree with you completely there. It's because there are so many scoring plays and live action that makes poor officiating in basketball soo impactful. It's a game so defined by momentum, runs, confidence, and strategy that refs can quickly change how a game is played.

I'd argue officiating is easily more impactful in bball than any other sport because it can change how teams score so easily.

TV wanted Louisville v. Cincinnati last year?

Why is it that everyone thinks everything is a conspiracy?

That's pretty much the one exception I can find too. Always seemed the original powers + Pitino got favorable officiating. Having bias doesn't mean there is a conspiracy.

There isn't bias either.

Not necessarily team bias, but crowd bias.  Studies support this.  Syracuse draws a large crowd in NY so it is like a home game for them.  Refs then have bias.

Not tonight.

Actually for the first 20'ish minutes Syracuse was getting all the calls.  After that they started calling it differently and Louisville took advantage of it.  Very poorly officiated game.  Brings up this statistic.

"When the home team is leading, the probability of the next foul being called on them was about 6.3 percentage points higher than when the home team was trailing. The professors also cited an earlier study that concluded there were more calls against teams ahead in games on national TV versus those ahead in locally televised games. Calling fouls against the leading team tends to keep games closer, the studies said."

Officials try to keep the game interesting, in some cases that lets it get out of hand and a team like Louisville can take an inch and stretch it to a mile.

You live in a bubble if you don't think bias enters college basketball officiating.
