Just beat me to it--interesting to see some cracks appearing in the alliance.  I do hate that both 'Nova and MU shat the bed last night so that G'town is the only C7 school remaining in the BET right now.

I wonder who the anonymous "school officials" are that Thamel quotes here.  LW?

GGGG

I have heard similar things as Thamel, so don't dismiss this completely out of hand.

However there are six other schools, and last I heard, 6>1.  So they are letting Georgetown do this.

Also yesterday he said he polled half a dozen Big East coaches and ADs on if the ACC should take MSG.  They all said yes.

Could those half dozen be ND, UL, SU, PU, UCONN, and UC?

I'm guessing these are his same sources for this story.

Written by the same guy who yesterday said the ACC should bludgeon the C7.

He's a Syracuse grad with an agenda.

Now, he could be right... But, Pete has some credibility questions. Remember, he wrote this journalistic masterpiece... http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1206734/index.htm?eref=sisf

I agree.  But the biggest name doesn't get 7 votes last time I checked.

Georgetown's take on the article.  Sounds like the article has been modified a few times since when it first came out.

The more I think about this article, the dumber I think it is.

Yeah, they may be taking a leadership role, and yeah they might be preening a bit.  But honestly, in the end who really cares?  As I said, there are six other schools that seem to be going along with this, and you can't expect every decision to be unanimous and every meeting to be without some sort of dispute.

Without that biggest name, you're looking a significantly weaker league.

And Georgetown's other option is?????  Whatever is being decided is because 4 or more schools want it to happen.  They aren't just giving into Georgetown.

Sorry, but Georgetown brings the most to the table. I'm willing to give them a longer leash.

Once we have a commissioner this will all stop. And on July 1, I also hope we have some good lawyers so we can sue ESPN, SI, CBS or any other news outlet who refers to the Big East as the C7, New Big East or Big East 2.0 as harming our brand as we go forward.

Same here...but not too long.  We don't want Gtown coming off the floor shoulder-checking the hell out of all of us a la LeBron and Mike Brown

Is it their penchant for early NCAA exits that brings the most to the table? Or, perhaps, their wonderful multiple NIT bids in the last decade?

It's funny how long of a leash a seven year old Final Four and a famous father can bring a program.

I'm told the Georgetown AD wanted nothing to do with the new conference and was very outright in saying so among friends.  Then when he realized the Hoyas had no other option, he started acting like it was his idea all along and wanted to run the thing despite the Nova AD/president and our AD/president taking all the crucial steps to actually make this happen.

I get that their colors are blue and gray, but Jesus...that board is hideous.

What I thought the most interesting aspect of the article was, were the references to the Fox contract.  That we were not allowed to shop it around to other stations.

More importantly, that the league probably settled for LESS money from Fox than they would have gotten on the open market.

Tells you how much these networks value the Basketball league.  The America 12 couldn't get anyone to bid on them, but we left money on the table settling for over $4M per team per year.

You act like they're leaps and bounds ahead of us.  Let's go since 2000 yes?  Same amount of Final Fours, same amount of Sweet 16s, and we have more NCAA appearances.  Outside of being better known to people raised in the 80s or 90s they aren't bringing more to the table.

I need to hear that from more than one source for me to believe it.

Keep wearing your blue and gold goggles. I prefer a little objectivity. Take a national poll and ask people about MU and Georgetown. You'll quickly find out that Georgetown's profile is much, much higher. Hell, half the people I talk to think Marquette is in Michigan.

To deny that Georgetown is the big dog in the new Big East is either silly or stupid.

I was just asking a few honest questions.

And I never denied that Georgetown was one of the big dogs in the Big East.
