After watching the brutal play in the afternoon games, this last Big East weekend is going to be a bloodbath and is ripe for injury.    Sit it out, take a 6 seed and  come in healthy.

brewcity77

Even with the loss we won't likely drop to a 6.

paddyquakes

but you hope that you do. 6 is better than 4 or 5. 4/5 play each other in the second round and end up playing 1 before meeting 2 in the final round. 6 plays 3 but only needs to beat 2 before playing 1 in the finals. Check it out.

Yeah. Basketball teams have to beat other basketball teams to advance in the basketball tournament.

Oh really? I didn't know that.

You play the teams in front of you. This year even the 1-seeds look vulnerable, except maybe Duke.  If Junior plays well, there's no one we can't beat. By the same token, we could lose to an inferior opponent (see also: last night). This year, I'm not as concerned about the draw. There just aren't that many scary teams out there.

I'm not glad we lost, but it does have a couple silver linings. I mean, the majority of NCAA tourney teams enter the tournament coming off a loss so this isn't the end of the world and we shouldn't be ready to jump off a cliff. Anyone that has watched this team and understands hoops could/should have seen the momentum turn w/Otule and Ox out for the rest of the first half.

By losing we:
- play one or two fewer brutally physical games
- take an extra day/two to prepare for the tourney
- get heads straight

I don't think the loss will hurt us. At worst we are a five seed, and at most a 4. I haven't paid attention to see what the other #13-16 ranked teams have done. Regardless, a five seed is the worst. A 6 is a slap in the face to what we've done this year.

GGGG

I am not glad we lost.  I am very much annoyed even after a short night's sleep.  Too many turnovers.  Too many dumbass fouls.  Marquette cannot overcome undisciplined play and empty possessions.  It is not an exaggeration that without the turnovers we could have been up 20 points early in the first half.  And without the fouls on our bigs, ND might have never got back into the game.

Sadly .. do we need this thread?

Can't we use the one after our BET loss from 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007 ... they all said the same thing .. silver lining .. get extra rest .. no injuries .. won't hurt our seed anyhow .. hooray!

brewcity77

If we did get a 6, I imagine whoever is the 3 opposite us would feel pretty hard done.

Niv Berkowitz

Good point Brew. It's so friggin' open this year. MU at a 4, 5, or 6 can still get to the sweet 16.

yes, but chances are they will have earned that privilege. Take someone like Miami or Florida who have seemed incapable of getting out of their own way late in the year. Michigan should they lose to Wisconsin, Mew Mexico maybe. (understand not a lot of heavy research behind these examples, just spit balling). Teams that maybe should be 4 seeds, but get the benefit of the doubt, but a tougher road - essentially giving one of the above a 4 seed and MU a 5. Again, none of this crap matters. 3, 4, 5, 6 seed...who the hell cares? The difference is basically non-existent. All have a reasonable chance of losing in the first round. Once you get past that, you might as well throw the seeds out.

Now, Buzz and the team can head down to the Bradley Center and support DWade vs. the Bucks tonight, unless of course, family obligations necessitate #3 watchin' T-Cubed and the rest of his hommies in Chicago.

Damn, you are cranky lately.  Always better to win of course, but much rather have them get the crappieness out of their system now.

Hairy, I just hate dumb basketball, and that is what they played yesterday.  When they lose to a buzzsaw like Louisville last year, I am OK.  But losing to a ND team that they should have beat just annoys me.

Yup, that is frustrating as hell. Definately shouldn't lose to that team and it had more to do with how we played than how ND played

Those extra games required to win the Big East Tournament really caused some problems for Louisville in 2012, UConn in 2011 and WVU in 2010.

I'm not glad we lost.

We played poorly against Rutgers, poorly against St. John's, sporadic against Notre Dame.  Not a good trend.

Coleman

No way we drop to a 6. This team is a 5 seed with an outside chance at a 4 if we get lucky.

That will just make the remaining teams mentally tougher. It would of helped us to win. Maybe built confidence. I feel like they can't perform on a grander stage.

I agree. We have one and done written all over us the way we have played. People act as if we can just "get the crappy game" out of our system and we will be fine. Quite honestly, we have been pretty cappy the three games you cited.

Get fuckin bent if you are glad MU lost last night.

No one that is a warrior fan should be glad to lose ever especially to the domers. However, in the big scheme of things it is much better to lose in the bet than the NCAA.

karavotsos

The only time it is good to lose is in Olympic badminton.

Teams go through ebbs and flows
hoping buzz can correct it damn soon.

Two of the three games you mention were on the road and they did win them. There was a lot of chest thumping going on after the first nd game. These are the same players now as then. Have some optimism
