We R Final Four

"Near the bottom nationally in 3 pt %, Marquette finished 1st (conf. Games only) in the BE in overall shooting %.

I think this explains the value of the paint touch.

It is a testament to Buzz that he can turn over a coaching staff without missing a beat.   It also says good things about his assistants that they can integrate their strengths with Buzz.    Finally, it says a lot about lack of egos that 3 former head coaches are on Buzz's staff.  I was worried about continuity from last year and wondered if the lack thereof contributed to some early season struggles.    I think my worries were misplaced.

I LOVE this stat, and I have to wonder if MU can make improvements in their 3pt% next season.

Todd should be a little better, Vander should be a little better, Jamil is already pretty good (but could shoot more), Juan should get a little better, Derrick can't get worse, and Steve Taylor should be closer to 30% (currently at 25%).

As a team, they could be 3-5% better on 3's with moderate improvement, and that would put them in the middle of the pack in the Big East... and if they shoot a little better, it will make life a little easier for Gardner and Otule.

I think next year's best three point shooter may not join the team until next year.

Yea, but I'm not looking for a specific "guy", I'm just talking about team percentage. I don't think there is a 40% shooter on the roster. Even with all of the improvement Vander has made, he's still a 30% shooter.

But, it's reasonable to think that Vander, Todd, Jamil, Juan, Derrick and Steve Taylor could all improve by 3-5% each, which would lead to MU shooting a decent percentage as a team.

Right...I guess I meant that the team percentage might go up simply because of who we have coming in too.

I hate it. It places value on FG%, which may as well not even exist.

Fine, #mubb finished with the #1 offense in the BE and was #2 in eFG% despite being the #14 three point shooting team.

Yea, I just don't see a lot of minutes available, but I suppose that is a whole different conversation we can have all summer.

MU is losing approx. 54min. when Junior and Trent graduate.

Derrick is going to get some of that, Duane will probably get some. (Junior's minutes).

The rest (25-30min) is probably going to be split between Mayo, Taylor Jr. Juan, Jamil, and frankly, Gardner (who could/should play more).

Obviously Jamal and the frosh. will get their chance to earn minutes, and if they play well, they will force Buzz to figure it out. But, I don't know if these guys are going to play enough to have a significant impact on MU's 3pt shooting. I think that improvement will have to come from in-house.
