Vander is still very inconsistent from 3 as we all know. Still only at 29.2. I know his role this year with no Jae or DJO is much different but I was surprised to see hes actually launched 106 3s this year.

His 31 makes are the amount he attempted last year.

Was actually surprised to see 1/3rd of his shots are from downtown this year.

That's a bit surprising too.  For some reason it feels like he's shooting better than the stats show too.  Probably because he's actually scoring in a variety of ways too and his mid-range jumper is pretty solid too.  It's just nice to see Vander knocking down some more shots and bricking fewer ones.

Thats no surprise as he has no shake and bake in his game, he either scores on the fastbreak or shots a three particularly since they guard him tight now, so he is open for the 3
shot, plus the other coaches are probably telling the defender to let him shot out there.

I don't think that's true. His mid-range jumper has been great this year. Actually, when he takes a dribble and pulls up around the free throw line, his jumper looks great. He is also driving well in the half-court and finishing much better this year.

The problem is that he can not get that shot to often, as he has very little shake in his game, maybe one of those shots a game.  It is obvious he has improved greatly but to get to the
next level he has to be able to do more, or shot the ball like Steve Novak, 29 percent gets you a ticket to Europe.

There is no, "I don't think this is not true" about this statement.  It is definitely factually not true.  If you have watched any games you know this is not true.  Vander shoots all kinds of shots at the rim and in the mid-range in the half court game.  Whether he has 'shake and bake' in his game, I have no idea what that means.  However, he does not simply settle for threes in the half court.  That is a fact.  If I were Kirk Goldsberry I would have a colorful chart to show you.

He is more of a straight line player, does not go left or right to often, as the season progressed he had more charges against him.  Shake and bake, George Thompson, DWade, Dominic
James, Jerrel McNeil, plays more like Wes Mathews, which is not bad.

While I agree Vander doesn't have a whole lot of shot fake to then drive and make a move, I feel like he has taken plenty of mid range jumpers a game and not just settled for 3.

Jamil's 3 attempts are way up too this year and while his % has dipped with more attempts recently hes still a solid 37%

The charge thing is only based on last game.  No way you would have said McNeal or Matthews had more 'shake and bake' than Vander if you watched them play at the same time.  Wade and James had more moves.  Fine.  Did not have the privilege to watch Thompson play.  Vander is not afraid to go to the hole in the half court, he has gotten there a lot and in order to do so you have to go to your left or your right.

Van was shooting 37% in non conference play.  (13/35)  very respectable considering the past couple years

in conference he's shooting 24% (17/71).

He's shooting 4.18 attempts in each conference game compared to the open 2.92 attempts (much more open looks) when teams didn't know to challenge his outside shot.

that's with tougher competition and tiring legs. he plays 32.4 min/game.

The thing I worry with Van is that he'll be burned out come tourney time.  He's improved ten fold with his jumper over last year, but his extended minutes due to Todd's suspension could come back to bite us later than we thought.
