Sir Lawrence

Received my Priority Points Account information and reseating guide in the mail today.  I underestimated the "Minimum Donation" level for the courtside (Dick Strong) seats in a thread a few days ago, or MU jacked them up.  It's $7,800 per seat, plus $950 per seat for the season tickets.

It's $3,600/seat plus $800 for season tickets in the first four rows of sections 200-201 & 227 and in the first six rows of sections 213-215.  Those are deemed to be "Preferred Seating" and are available to anyone and is not based on the priority points system.

Here's what I don't get.  If I'm lucky enough to score a seat in row seven of section 214 (center court) I'd have to pay $600/seat donation and $570 for the ticket, while the guy in front of me pays $3,600/$800.  If this is about revenue generation, why not crank up the seat license higher for rows 7-whatever in those six sections that are in the center?

The other curiosity is that the letter is dated February 11, and reached me here, about 20 blocks from the ticket office, on March 7.

It's probably a demand issue.  I don't think they sell out all those "Preferred Seating" spots.  Also, if they cranked up the seat license in those sections, they'd probably piss off a bunch of long-time season ticket holders that have donated plenty to MU over the years.  I'm sure it's tough to find a balance.

And lets say the jacked up the donations for rows 1-15 instead of row 1-6.  Whoever is in row 16 is going to say the same thing as you are saying now, unless you go to the whole section.  Then to Litehouse's point, its probably a demand issue.

I get that.  I don't get the disparity.  The sliding scale for the seat license seems out of whack.  I'm pretty certain that rows 7-15, center court, are worth at least $1,000 per seat license.  I contend that those seats are better than rows 6-7:  better site lines, but then, of course, a longer trip into the blue & gold room at half time........And the seat license is for the purpose of fresh revenue generation--they pissed off the entitled long time season ticket owners the first time, and pretty much every time, re-seating has occurred.   People will grumble about giving more, yet ending up with a lower ranking than last time, but that's the way it is in big time intercollegiate athletics.

I also get the Litehouse point about demand.  But, there always seem to be butts in those seats.  I have no way of knowing if they are purchased on the secondary market, or otherwise controlled by MU.  For a bunch of years I sat right behind the hockey wall in section 215, which is within those "preferred" seats, and saw the same faces in that area every game.

Indeed .. the new price schedule .. leaves ticket prices alone, but jacks the donations.  Middle section goes from $500 to $600 per seat, 4 secs on baseline go from $300 to $360 .. corners go from $100 to $120.

Those 6 middle sections .. wow, are they cemented in place.  Each year, they're donating $1200 (for 2) versus $720 versus $240, meaning the middle sections are "forced" to gain 5 or 9 points on everyone else, every year.

Say and your spouse had been a STH for 10 years .. donated no small sum of $500 each year .. 63 points.  That gets you high in a corner.

High on the 4 baseline sections?  200 points.  If that was your goal, just to get into one of the 4 baseline sections .. it'd take $3500 a year for 9 more years of donations.  Probably several more years, since those people you are trying to supplant are also donating.

I forget, are they reseating every year now? I seem to remember something

The big difference is that in order to get the seats in row 7, you have to have ~400 points, which means you have been donating and buying season tickets for decades. The guy in row 6 could be a brand new season ticket holder, but must pay the higher donation in order to bypass reseating and the points system.

I've received nothing in the mail regarding next season's season tickets. . . hmmm.  Have others received this notice alrready?

It came in the mail just today, Daniel.

Thanks MU.  But Feb 11?  Will we be ablt to select a section and seat?  The initial info last fall said we could not select a seat, just a section.

Section and row, not seat.  You can indicate a preference within the row, as in "closest to center court," or "closest to aisle."

I've got 12 points. It's going to be a doozy of a donation to sit center court row 10.

My takeaway?  If you're donating $20,000 and not sitting court side, you're a moron.

That being said, 19 year old co-eds rarely puke, fall or pass out in the court side seats so...219 for Life!  Best side show in basketball.

They might have printed the letters and held them before sending due to a hiccup in timing, or they weren't ready to communicate.  Or is it a Feb 11th postmark and delivered now...if that's the case then the USPS is functioning on all cylinders.
