What seed is the cut off for the ncaa committee to not try and let them play close to home? Would the committee try and get marquette in the Midwest regional in Indy?

Eldon

I'm still new to Scoop so bad at searches, but someone on here a couple dozen threads back said that we have to stay at a 4 seed (or above) to have them consider which region we play in

21rooster

That would set up nicely for an mu-iu matchup in Indy.  If the teams do their jobs, that may be too tempting for the committee to pass up.

#3
The top 4 seed lines (16 teams) are assigned their own pod leading a group of 4 teams each to a site.  Second/third round location is not tied to a specific regional location.  Said another way, you can't tell where teams headed to Indy for the Sweet 16 will have played the week before.  Each of these 16 pods has a pecking order, one through sixteen with the highest getting the most consideration.  So likely suspect that a #1 seed Indiana will be playing as close to home as possible; in this case Dayton.  Count on one or both Michigan teams filling the two Auburn Hills slots and so on.  It goes from pod #1 down to #16 until all sites are exhausted.

Now of course the computer doesn't figure all this out; human beings do.  So consideration is given to making this work out best for the majority of the highly ranked teams.  MU's challenge in staying close to home is that there are some very good Midwestern teams vying for those 3 coveted Midwestern second/third round sites.

Bottom line, keep winning and our chance of having a NCAA location within driving distance improves.

So if we keep winning, our chances of being in the Indy regional increase? Or playing in the closest location for the second and third rounds increase? Or both?

Put it this way...obviously it's impossible to do, but they TRY to put ALL teams as close to home as possible, regardless of seed. The higher your seed, the better chance you have of getting put somewhere close to home. The committee also may put a team close to home for the 2nd & 3rd rounds, but not in a Regional that's close to home. For example, they may put MU in 2nd & 3rd round sites in say Dayton or Auburn Hills, but in the South Regional which is played in Austin Texas. There is only one Midwest Regional site this year(Indianapolis), but several Midwest 2nd & 3rd round sites...Dayton, Auburn Hills, Kansas City, Lexington(all within reasonable driving distance).

I'd say it's pretty likely(not for sure), that MU will get one of those sites for their 2nd and 3rd round games, but probably not end up in the Midwest Regional in Indy. Too many other schools that will be seeded right around MU that may take priority...Louisville for example, Michigan is another, Michigan State, That's where the problem may come in as far as the Regional site goes.

Not that this has any indication, but Lunardi seems to have us in Austin for the 2nd and 3rd rounds and the Indy regional.

Let me comment on that just a little bit.  If a highly ranked MU is given a pod close to home (this assumes a #4 seed or better), I'd fully expect their Sweet 16 location to NOT be Indy.  Recall last year... Louisville, then Phoenix.

And let's not get too excited about Auburn Hills or Kansas City.  I'd be shocked to go to either.  Michigan, Michigan St., Kansas, Kansas St. can be reasonably expected to fill those 4 pods as of today.  We'd need to pass one of them on the S-curve to be considered in my estimation.  Peg Indiana and Louisville for 2 pods at Dayton and/or Lexington.  There's only 2 more in those locations.

Yes we're ahead of Bucky, Butler, etc. now for those locations but you can see how that goes.

Well, other than the last couple of years, MU has always gotten screwed as far as location goes, so nothing would surprise me. But they damn well better figure out a way to give MU one or the other....either a 2nd-3rd round site close, or be put in the Midwest regional. To get neither as a top 4 seed would be absolutely ridiculous.

Am I the only one who doesn't want to be the 4 seed in the Indy Region?  Sweet 16 game vs Indiana in Indianapolis doesn't sound to good to me.
