Chicos' Buzz Scandal Countdown

Probably a bit premature now but how long until Marquette's home court advantage is generally seen to be as strong at UW's once was at the KC? A year or two? The loss to Purdue is ridiculous.... UW isn't that bad, especially at home

We already have stronger team and possibly better environment.  Where we lack compared to the Kohl is the officials don't completely screw every team that comes into the BC.

I was wondering the same thing.  It's definitely getting noticed, but it may take another season to get a NATIONAL reputation like the KC and Carrier dome have accomplished.

According to wikipedia for the Kohl...
The arena has become exceptionally difficult for opposing teams to play in, especially in men's basketball, helped in part by the student section known as the Grateful Red. At the end of the 2008–2009 season, the men's basketball team had achieved a record of 153–16 at the Kohl Center, with only six losses between 2001 and 2007.[4] The arena garnered attention when the men's basketball team compiled a 38-game home winning streak, which came to end during the 2004–2005 season at the hands of the No. 1 ranked University of Illinois. Through 14 games of the 2012-2013 season, the men's basketball team has achieved a record of 183-18 at the Kohl Center under Coach Bo Ryan."

If MU can pass another undefeated season, it'll gives MU about a 40 game winning streak.  Will be tough to do during the non-conference since MU was rumored to be looking for two "high major" teams to start home-and-home's with.

Anyone know or want to compile MU's home record in recent years to see how the BC compares?

forgetful

UW is only as good as their 3-pt shooting.  If you are taking 28 3's a game, you are going to lose when you make less than 30% of those.

Neither was as good as the Mecca in Al's day.

Also, next year public perception will be much more in Marquette's favor now that Cuse/CSU/Kansas lost these last few weeks.  Notice how Marquette got more national attention on their streak for the ND game.  Previously, MU just had the 4th/5th/6th longest streak. That doesn't sound nearly as impressive as the second longest streak... especially considering SDSU in first plays in a weak conference.

You need to fill the stands better to be considered in upper tier of tough joints to play. Watching senior night video yesterday I could not believe how many highlights had whole upper deck empty. At this point I think home streak is more about playing better at home than BC being a snake pit. Last two games were great atmosphere but need not much more of that in future.

True.

Of course, Meminger, Chones, Lackey, McNeill and Lucas might have had a little to do with that.

I agree completely.  However, I will say that the Bradley Center at 10k people looks a LOT more empty than other arenas at 10k people on TV (like the Kohl).

The reason is the layout of the BC.  At the Kohl, the levels are stacked tightly atop each other, unlike the sprawling upper deck at the BC where you see every row on TV.  Also most of the good seats at the Bradley are along the side-court sections which are rarely visible by the TV cameras.  At the BC, the majority of fans prefer to sit halfcourt uppers in Row T than Row G in the end zone/corner (visible on TV).  At the Kohl, the endzone/corners are much closer to the action due to the stacked design, and may actually be preferred by fans.

If the students are not packing the upper level behind the hoop, it's very noticeable at the BC.  Nothing can be explained for the empties in the lower bowl endzones besides that those video clips were again cupcakes where students don't like to attend unless its Wiscy.

The Bradley just looks much worse than other arenas when it's not sold-out.

Disclaimer... I would love to have those guys, and in no way am taking anything away from Al's team and their legacy.

That being said, put any of these recent solid MU teams in that much-smaller packed arena and it will be an intimidating crazy environment.  The Mecca is much smaller (6500 less seats) with lots of close sections with no bad seats... also has a dark look which is great for hoops fan.  Even Al's greatest squads wouldn't have the same intimidating effect at the Bradley.

Steve Fischer's pit together a winner. Weak conference or not. The guy is a great coach.

Marquette played at the Arena which seated close to 13,000. Al would look up at the upper most corner seats at the beginning of each home game to see if they were filled (they were.) That was his measre of job security.

Not sure what you were seeing but I was at the game and most of the empties were single/double seats, not entire sections.  If it was highlights of the senior night speeches, yeah, it cleared out, but during the game the BC was full.

They are at 30. And they don't schedule anyone of note in the non-con. But Nate Wolters is leaving this year, so they will take a huge hit next year.

I was referring to the highlight video they showed during senior ceremony. Way too many highlights witnessed by empty seats. Of course the place was packed yesterday and mentioned crowd last two games were great.

If we ever build a new facility/re-model, the key is to put the fans on top of the court, make it cozy.   That atmosphere is more imposing to visiting teams and referees alike, imo.

The Arena held just under 11,000 when I was there and later was expanded to just over 11,000. It was a great home-court advantage. We also had great teams.

Actually Arena held 11,052 after seats were added. Previous I believe was 10,938.

For some reason my brain has always held that it seated 12, 6XX. Not sure where I ever got that but I stand corrected.

Are you in the PRC now?

Why on earth did they add/expand to only 114 seats?  How is that even worth the bother?

They added some seats above end zone exits. Not sure why but it did put the joint over 11k in capacity.
