Whether he admits it or not, Williams coaching a gem

Written by: Mark Strotman

Buzz Williams won’t admit his team’s good. Not even after 21 wins, 12 in the Big East and 25 straight at home. So good luck getting him to admit the truth about himself: he’s one hell of a basketball coach. … Continue reading →

Indeed.  Let's hope that there is synergy in the admin and the coaches.  We all love Buzz and what he has accomplished at Marquette, how he care's for his players and their lives, and how he represents our university.  He is a gem.

Same comments were said here in 2003...

He's done great, and I'm glad we've changed the policies of the last few years, but the same exact comments were uttered in 2003...happy to pull them up for people that have short term memories.

Let's see if we can get to that same promised land.

Okay, I'll bite.  Changed the policies of the last few years?
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

I'll admit it. We have one of the greatest coaches in the land!!!

In regards to your comment above did anyone notice if there was any interaction on the court between the 3 friends at the senior ceremony?  I was there but to be honest forgot to pay attention.  Some of my buddies said father p and buzz did not say a word to each other and stayed away from each other...

Wouldn't it be nice to get one of those letters co signed from LW and Father P to go to the students telling them how lucky Marquette is to have buzz and just how great of a job he is doing?  Not to mention how well he represents our school.

Thanks buzz.  Everyone who is a due hard fan, and understands how quickly this could all change with out you, cannot thank you enough.

Buzz is the best coach since Al and maybe those words were uttered in 2003. That said, Buzz has gone to the next level as a coach. He is star and no longer a rising star. The cat knows his stuff and walks the walk.

When they first hired buzz you said we have to wait 3 or 5 yrs before judging. Are you now ready to give some props without the continual qualifiers and comparisons to your boy.

Tom Crean hired a diamond in the rough. We are all better for it. Enough said.

Crean hired an assistant coach. The former AD hired a head coach, big difference.

Without the Crean hire the AD hire would have never happened. You can have the last word. Enough said.

Maybe, but not a certainty. Besides, don't care for Crean and the horse he rode in on. I'll only give him credit for gettin' out of town, albeit a few years too late.

Who cares, the point is that no matter how he got here Buzz is fantastic and I sure hope the admin doesn't drive him away.  That would be an absolute travesty.

Buzz is fantastic. I'll take all of his "coach speak," and "country bumpkin" shtick and never tire of it. To me, its not your words, but rather your actions.

Definitely a phenomenal coach.  I won't try to cover for either side admin or buzz by downplaying, etc..  Hopefully both sides can see buzz is building something special here.  It would be wise to create some synergy.  Thanks buzz definitely his best coaching to date.

Same passive aggressive, get my point across at all costs BS that endears you to so many.

There is a major difference between Buzz and Crean, and anyone who lived through it and the dark years before knows it. I never thought we had a genius in Crean. I honestly believe that about Buzz. He is different. It wouldn't hurt you to admit it; it detracts nothing from Crean.

If we went back to the year Crean was hired and placed Buzz where Crean was, I am not so sure we are in as good of a situation as we are because Crean came first. Crean was a masterful marketer. He did an unbelievable job breathing life back into Marquette basketball. He excelled in areas that Buzz does not have as great of strengths.

But, Crean is no Buzz Williams, and that takes into account Indiana's season this year. Buzz is Al or as close as you will come. Crean is a hard working imposter. He did great things at Marquette, but he hit his ceiling. Buzz has not.

Again, there is a major difference between 2003 and 2013 and that difference is Buzz Williams. If you can't see it, it is because you are blinded by your own stubborn insistence on prving whatever point it is you are trying to make.

Because what Scoop was desperately lacking was a Buzz vs. Crean thread

(No shot at the OP, which was a good article)

Not sure if posting a link to another website is allowed here...if not I HAVE enjoyed MUScoops if this is my last post.

Seems like the UTexas fans are falling in love with Buzz as well....WARNING - the Texas board is a little rough with language at times...

By you, I'm sure. Also in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008. And even after Crean left, in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, last month, last week and yesterday. By you, about Crean.

Did I miss the part about them falling in love with him?  It seems like they just dont think a good coach will go there.

Of course it could be just me.....but the way I read it....

Someone way back during Maui threw out his name as a possible replacement for Barnes....nobody seemed to think Buzz was the right guy - apparently not 'worthy' of Texas...

By the end of that thread there seemed to be a 'feeling' like they would be happy to have him

But Tejas fans are a narcissistic bunch...they think they can just snap their fingers and have ANY coach in the country at their choosing...
