At a critical time in the second half Otule looked from my vantage point to have clearly taken a charge that was called a block.  Of course no replay was shown at the BC.  For those who had the chance to watch it on replay was this a terrible call or did I miss something.

Chris moved into the guy after he got airborne.  The TV showed Chris clearly moving to make contact.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

BallBoy

Looking back I think it was a block.  Very close but Otule was still moving after ND player got in the air.  In real time it could have gone either way but after slowing it down, it was the right call.

This is correct. Otule was moving.

From my view the ND player looked very out of control.  Was that before or after the contact?

It doesn't matter if the player is under control or not.  If the defender is moving, which Otule was, it is a blocking foul.

Otule was moving.   Block.

I thought it was a charge live but on the replay Chris moved while the shooter was in the air. It was a good call.

Not necessarily. The defender has a right to the space as well. Watch Wisconsin, they draw charges when the defender is moving all the time.

That's because of the Bo Cryin' Effect. The Refs would rather avoid listening to Ryan's BS so they'll call a charge. Much like a hen pecked husband will avoid conflict.

Yes, but Chris was moving into position after the player was airborne. It was definitely a block. Nice effort by Otule though.

The play in question was absolutely a block. In general though, a charge can be called when the defender is moving if he is in good defensive position.

This is incorrect.  If a defender has position, it does not matter if he is moving, it is a player control foul.

Where the refs made the correct call was that he was moving 'when the player was in the air'.  Once the player has left his feet you can't slide under him, even if as a defender you have position.

Had the same play occurred 12 ft from the basket on a drive it was a charge.  Since the player was already in the air it was correctly called a blocking foul
