Just got off the phone with my friend in Memphis and J3 had just another monster game last night.  Southwind plays again Thursday to earn right to make trip to state.

J3 fairly quiet in first half and SW was only leading by 4, but 3rd quarter was all J3, but the best part was it was his defense that was the highlight.  I was told that on 5 of the first 6 possessions for the opposition he had 2 blocks and three steals..the steals led to assists and dunks by J Williams (Mizzou recruit). By the time the quarter was over SW was leading by ~20.

Final unofficial lines for J3  25 Pts  7 Rb  5 steals 5 assists 3 blocks.

I fully expect his freshman year averages to be similar to that line.

Tenacious D will get you on the court early and often with Buzz.  Hope he brings that with him right away, as his scoring ability will be welcomed next year.  Thanks for the update.

Is it just me or are other people getting the feeling that he might be the stud of this class?

While I find them entertaining, do you really think these guys will help Jajuan get on the court as a freshman?  ?-( ?-( ?-(

Jameel McKay will be ready from day 1, and I'm confident that JJJ will be at least at a Mayo-as-a-Frosh level.  Anything else we get from the newcomers will put us at a crazy good level next year (assuming everyone else stays).  It's not hard to imagine one or more of the others outplaying those expectations.

Clearly they can broker a deal with the devel for frosh PT.

This class could be over the top good.  Can't wait to see how it plays out.  There will be a ton of talent on the team next year!

That is my expectation as well, and when he doesn't meet my expectation, I will be upset, and I will display my disappointment on the internet.

Oh, also, I will condescendingly clap when he makes a good play.

I've read this several times on this board. I'm wondering how a 6'9 190 pound forward will receive minutes over Wilson, Taylor, and Gardner? If Otule's stays I don't think he'll see the floor much. I've never seen him play, but watche enough Big East Bball to know 190 pounds doesn't cut it.

JJ2, you say Jameel is ready to play at day one, with JWilson back and Steve Taylor, how would you compare the 3 players?

Easy, go big. 2 of those 4 on the floor all the time. That's quite a luxury, and doesn't even include Anderson.

Go big... it would be fun to trot out a really tall line up again. I watched some of the Elite 8 game when we had Jackson at the 5 and Merritt at the 4, it's a good problem to have a lot of skill and size down low.

That's 5 guys for 2 spots (excluding Anderson).

I suspect somebody isn't going to play much as there are only 80min. total between the 2 spots.

Otule
Gardner
J Wilson
Taylor
McKay

It's a good problem to have, but one of these players is only going to see spot minutes. I'll let you decide who it is.

jficke13

I know this isn't the thread or really the time to discuss it, but I just have a feeling Otule decides not to play next year.

Otule: 15mpg
Gardner: 25mpg
J Wilson: 10mpg (and another 15-20 on the perimeter)
Taylor: 20mpg
McKay: 10mpg

Problem solved. Anyone have Buzz's cell number?

I imagine McKay's put on some more weight since whenever that was taken

I'm not uncomfortable with that, but then you are going to have people crying for more Mayo and J3 minutes because if J Wilson is playing 15+ on the perimeter, that only leaves about 35min. for JaJuan, Juan, Mayo, and Burton. (assuming Vander gets 30 at 2g)

You know Todd Mayo is more efficient when he plays more! He needs 25+min. That leaves 10min. for Juan, J3 and Burton. "But, Burton has a great body! He needs more minutes!"

This is why I think the best frosh. player (whoever that is) is going to get meaningful minutes (15-20) and the others are going to get spot min. (like Steve Taylor Jr. this season)

This isn't like "the amigos" when they came into a program that needed starters. Next year's roster needs role players, and that's what they will be.

It's a great situation for them. Buzz will put them in good situations and limit their exposure to bad match-ups.

Not to derail this thread but I think Anderson and Wilson will have to play some (most) minutes at the 3.

Gardner (20)/Otule (20)
Wilson (10)/Taylor (15)/McKay (10)/Gardner (5)
Wilson (15)/Andersen (15)/Mayo (5)/Burton (5)
Blue (20)/Mayo (15)/ JJJ (5)
Wilson (15) / Wilson (12)/ Blue (13)

(Current)
Blue 33 (32)
Gardner 25 (21)
JWilson 25 (24)
Otule 20 (17)
Mayo 20 (15)
DEWilson 15 (13)
Andersen 15 (14)
Taylor 15 (9)
DUWilson 12
McKay 10
JJJ 5
Burton 5
JFerguson?
------------------------
Of course that would be fluid with roster changes and injuries. If people are complaining about too many guys this year.....

I think next year you just ride the seniors. If we have a great year with Blue, Wilson, Gardner and Otule playing a combined 100 minutes, you can at least give hope to the FROSH that we are an elite program and next year you'll have the keys to it.

I could see this.

The big wildcards:
- Is vander going to get minutes at PG? He got a couple last season, but none this season (that I remember anyways).
- Does one of the Frosh. really stand out? If McKay really stands out, then Buzz will have to find him minutes and move Jamil/Juan/Taylor into perimeter roles for at least 5-10min per game. If JuJuan stands out, then Buzz will have to find him minutes at the 2/3, which will move Jamil/Taylor back into strictly PF minutes. If Du. Wilson is really good, then Vander won't play PG, and it will be hard for any of the others to earn minutes.

I honestly think that one of the frosh. will probably stand out, and that will greatly effect the rotation by the time conference play begins.
