Marquette drops a seed line to 5 against Arizona State in San Jose.

He still has MU at 14 on the s curve and Butler at 19. It's either an error or a procedural bump.

Trent Lockett will love this

Saw that.  Makes no sense to me. Really doesn't mean much for another couple of weeks.

Saint Louis or Mizzou will knock of Gonzaga if that bracket comes true.

Joey Brackets really phoned it in with this one in regards to MU.

Not only the unexplained drop to a 5 seed, but we play Butler in the 2nd round... Committe will try to avoid nonconference rematches early in the NCAA's when possible especially considering the MU-Butler result got a lot of publicity.

Something I've been curious about is how the committe will handle San Jose being a host just three years ago.  This is very rare for a city to host 1st/2nd round games that recently... Not sure if it's ever been done actually just three years out.  Of the 8 teams in 2010 who played at the Shark Tank, only MU, Butler, and New Mexico are relevant to this year's tourney.

With eight sites to pick from (including unpopular Austin and SLC), I would imagine the committee would avoid putting MU, Butler, or NM in SJ this year.  Lunardi has two of them slotted there in today's bracketology... Butler and Marquette.

In regards to the 5 seed, MU works best while being slighted... just more motivation to win a couple games the next few days.

Butler hasn't played Bucknell or ASU, so I have to believe he just swapped us on accident.

Any chance at USF cracking the RPI top 100?  They're at 103 right now according to ESPN and that'd be two additional top 100 wins for us.

They win a road game (@Pitt or @Cinci), and they'd probably make the top 100.  Otherwise...a win against DePaul probably won't cut it.  Beat UConn at home might do it.

I'm sure he'd rather play closer to Minneapolis.

The only thing I can think of is he sacrificed our seed to be in the Midwest regional. I would rather be a 4 seed then a 5 seed because its the difference between playing a mid major (aq) vs a power conference team if that holds any importance these days anyway.

Side note: I really hope we don't get placed in the same location as Wisconsin. Really don't feel like having to deal with their fans during the tourney.

I agree with you.  I ran into a few in Boise and it was a mixed bag... It was fun rooting against them vs FSU though in the night session.  UW-Madison played a great game and snuck out the upset in OT.

I don't think these things are really going to help/hurt MU at this point.  When you get up to a certain seed line you won't "tricking" anyone about your wins/losses. These types of movement in polls, rankings, RPI, are way more beneficial to bubble teams.

However, it is still fun to watch at this point and watch the whole buble picture unfold.

I had no problems with the UW fans back in 03 at the Metrodome. After their loss to Kentucky they came back out two nights later and really made that place into a home court advantage for us.

Quite true.  They were cheering for us in '03 after they got bounced.

If this bracket held to form, that #1 Miami v #9 VCU (or #8 Illinois) could be fun to watch - Miami in a new position as a #1 seed against both those teams that can spring the upset.

I would enjoy the possibilty of getting to knock bucky out of the tourney.

Well then, they are better than me. I would never cheer for UW in any tournament game. Sorry.

Maybe will luck out and get a mid-major like we did with Murray State last year.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

I'd cheer for them. I was born and raised in Wisconsin always like Marquette more and went to Marquette. Why would I root for a team from another state?  I get it, they have some jag fans but put that aside. They have a classy basketball program and that just showed it in 2003. I would hope our team would cheer for them if they were playing in the same tourney city.

Agree.  As a MKE native, MU is my team but in sports where we do not compete gotta' cheer for the home state team.  Also, cheer for UW whenever they are not playing us in BB.
