What are the chances we get some help in the way of a big upset tonight in either the Orange or Hoya game?   I know it sounds crazy, I'm just really starting to like seeing MU listed at the top of the standings.
Both teams are at home, so it would be even a bigger upset, but a man can dream, can't he?

That was at USF, but I hear you. The law of averages says Georgetown is due to lose one here soon. Probably Saturday at Cuse, but I think there is a better chance DePaul wins @ GT than PC does at Cuse. Did I just say that??

I want this quote to serve as a reminder to the vast majority of scoop posters in regards to the MU BB program.

Clam Crowder

Syracuse is 47-10 in the PC series and 20-3 at home in that series...Growing up in RI and watching alot of PC games I never thought it was quite this lopsided...Pretty sad actually lol

RushmoreAcademy

DePaul in hanging in but PC looks dead in the water already.

Clam Crowder

Yupp PC is basically done in that game lol

MU Buff

Syracuse ended the half on a 31-4 run

Syracuse will have absolutely no answer to Gardner this year. In years past, they have always had an enforcer/shot blocker in the middle. This year they have a very skinny Keita and the Christmas kid doesnt look like a prototypical center. Dejuan Coleman is their center for the future but hes a freshman and not ready yet. Gardner should really be able to get anywhere he wants in the lane.

Luckily for James Southerland he goes to Syracuse, where grades are apparently given out weekly. At any other school being ruled academically ineligible means you're out for the remainder of the semester until grades come out and you're back above academic standards set for student athletes. But if you're a Syracuse basketball player Jimmy Boeheim will find a way to get you cleared within a week. Happens every year.

I think this goes back to the Andy Katz thing. Katz reported that there were two paragraphs in a term paper from last school year that were questionable. As a result he had to go through the appeal process.

Well it was a nice day on top.
We win Sat and we are guaranteed to be sharing with only 1 team.

Syracuse is good.  Boeheim has won 900+ games for a reason.   In a way, he is a system coach, but he has perfected the system and can recruit for it in his sleep.  His system is the 2-3, fast break, and make 3's.  Hard to argue with the results.

Who do we want to win/lose on Saturday re: Gtown-Cuse?

By day, he is a college basket ball coach.  But at night he becomes:

COUCH-MAN!!

How Couch Man was ever able to recruit any teenager to Syracuse is beyond me.

They play each other twice, so I assume we want them to split. So, it doesn't really matter who wins Saturday, as long as that winner is the loser on March 9th.

Statistically that is incorrect but your point is well taken

Thinking my own idea through a bit more, I suppose it is possible for us to want Syracuse to win on Saturday, then we beat Syracuse on Monday and then Syracuse to again beat G'town on March 9th. That way we'd have the tie breaker over SU and are more likely to remain a game ahead of G'town by the end of the season.

If G'town beats SU on Sat, then we definitely want/need to beat SU on Mon (well, duh, of course we do regardless!), and may end up hoping for the split that I first thought we'd want.

Does that make any sense?

Off-point but can we put this concept of "Law of Averages" to bed for a little while on MUSCOOP?

As invoked in everyday life, the "law" usually reflects bad statistics or wishful thinking rather than any mathematical principle.

It's obnoxious

Honestly, you could put Buzz's head on his body and that is about what Buzz wears to a game normally.
