Blue, Gardner, Jwilson and Lockett combined for 56 of MU's 67 points.    That means Junior, DWilson, Otule, Juan, Mayo, Taylor combined for 11.   I like better balance.   Poor first half, but finally wore SH down.   MU showed a nice killer instinct.   Loved the effort on the boards.   Bad FT shooting is like a norovirus.   Golden Avalanche isn't wrong that MU has played some lousy halves on the road.    Still think that call at the end of the first half was awful.     I hear that SH has had injuries and just don't have bodies, but I seem to recall making the NCAA tourney with a 6.5 man rotation with high school size.    Just sayin.

SH made the NCAAs because the prior coaching staff had some good recruits.  Hazell, Pope and that pesty point guard (can't recall his name, but was MU target and played with Cubillian). Since then, hey have had non-recruits signings, along with USF and Depaul.  For some reasons, they can't sign the players.

I wanted to talk about Otule and Gardner playing together.  I really like the possibility but they seem to get in each others way and not communicate well in the low post.  Also two big men could make it harder to break the 2-3 zone with no high post threat.  I just wanted to get others take on this new line up.

With familiarity will come more success, Gardner and Otule will get the kinks worked out

Another, I think he was referring to the Pitt game when he said that.  While watching on the web was challenging, I don't believe that Chris and DG played together tonight.  Certainly not 13 possessions against a team that only chucks the 3 ball.

In the Pitt game Gardner and Otule played quite a few DEFENSIVE possessions together.  At least six.  It was a kind of 3-2 zone, with the two big guys the 2 on the baseline.  Pitt was 0-for-6 on those possessions.  It worked well against them defensively.

Tonight I focused a bit more offensively and they tried to go high-low using those two.  Didn't work too well.  And our transition defense was horrid with those two in together.

I think Buzz will have to find the right teams/situations to use them both.  Tonight did not appear to be the right time.

Frankly, I thought we pretty much sucked when Otule and Gardner were on the court together. There aren't many teams that combo will work against. Gardner is obviously the guy who has to go high-post, meaning he'll have to handle the ball a little too much. He tried one pass to Otule that was a disaster. I guess for a 3-minute change of pace when the team isn't playing that well (as was the case when Buzz tried it tonight) it's fine.

Otherwise, very pleased with Lockett and Jamil. That's a few straight for Jamil, and I believe Lockett also has played solid all-around basketball the last month.
