buzz's comments are really funny here, had to read it a few times to figure out what the heck he is saying, got to love it

"I was (an assistant) at Colorado State. My oldest son had just been born. We went to the NCAA Tournament. We played Duke, down four with four minutes to play and I remember hearing some new words from Coach Krzyzewski to the officials. I don't know at that moment in time in my life that I was aware what was happening at Marquette. I don't mean that in the wrong way.

"That was 2003 and that was when it was in New Orleans, right? Obviously I have great respect for Coach Crean and all the players who were on that team and hope we can do it at some point in time again. It's awesome. They can come to any game they want. Sit on the bench, play if they want. Certain players could play. Certain players would be promoted to coaches."

I can only imagine the respectful response if a certain person is put on the screen....let alone if he has a video.  Heads will explode at the Bradley Center tomorrow if that's the case.  My guess is that we won't see anything like that.

I am sure they will show him and you know what the response will be. The discussion this week in your old office on what will happen when they flash Crean on the Tron must have been priceless. I am certain it focused on damage control.

You must know your view of the man is quite different from most others. I would guess the majority of Marquette fans could give a sh1t but have a generally negative opinion. Tomorrow will tell. You can vote with your wallet, vote with your feet, or, in this case, vote with your voice.  I think we all know how the crowd will vote.

I am guessing that the tribute won't make it on air on the CBS broadcast.  Can someone take a video and post it afterwards?

You spend 9 years telling everyone how it's a family, how much you love it, how special it is, how you ordered the media guide, how you love Al, how annually you'll donate $20,000 for 5 years for a soccer facility etc etc and then you leave in the middle of the night and word gets out because your brother in law (HE'S A FOOTBALL COACH!) goes on sports radio and leaks it, you have to expect some will be upset.  Especially when you're so shallow you repeat the same hiring press conference.

I never fell for the man.  I saw a guy who worked really hard and injected energy into a near ailing program (had not been to the tourney in 2 years, had not won their conference in 2 years) but also was the beneficiary of an in flux of cash and relaxed standards.  Any coach hired was going to have success.  Now would they have gone to the final four?  Quinn Snyder, probably not.  Alford, probably not.  But it wasn't all him, despite what he would have you believe.  Heck, they hired his unknown assistant who spent 1 year at low-major UNO and that guy's 1st four years more than best TC's last 4 years.

Some will boo because they hate / miss him, some will boo because they are glad he's gone.  I'll probably just sit quietly saying, glad we let him go...like with Charles Woodson, you have to know when to pull the plug.

Much of that is true, but it wasn't that way early on.  Over the years it became that way.  He was treated well by some at MU and not so well by others and his memory was long (like his ties).  Early on, it was family.  Then some people didn't act so much like family (I think you know who I am talking about) and things changed.  It takes two to tango.

Yes, Buzz's first four years were better, he also had a wildly different inherited situation.

MU didn't pull the plug, he pulled the plug.

Any coach hired would have had success?  Maybe, but we all know the landscape is littered with examples of that not being true at schools equally prominent in hoops.  NC State is one that wandered for a long time not being able to get back until very recently.

You are absolutely right, it wasn't all him.  I think he acknowledged that in the video...players, administrators, etc.  Its never about one person, but equally he often doesn't get his due either because some people can't separate hate from accomplishment.

Gottfried is a first cousin of the Harbaughs.

He probably would still be at Bama if he hadn't been, uh, friendly with a coed...

So it was all family until the Marquette family turned on Crean. Talk about revisionist history - next we'll all learn from you that the South won the Civil War. LOL

Guys, MU admin moved on, they fired TC, we should too.  He was a decent coach, sort of an NIT version of Buzz.

That's not what I said....go back a few posts and read exactly what I said. Your hyperbole is noted.

Of course, I also told you what was going on at IU, with him, their AD Glass, the stuff that never got reported about how bad things really were...the scandals were worse than reported in the media, etc...how all that would play out and he would be very much around and successful...I was 100% dead on right.  Go back and read what I wrote when you and so many others here were saying I was wrong.  Sorry, I have my sources too, many of them VERY close to the IU program.  That's why I knew the bet I took with Rocky was the easiest bet in the history of mankind, even though so many here agreed that he was going to be gone.

You didn't miss anything.  There was a three minute season highlight video at halftime and that's all. I'm sure it will be on YouTube if its not already.

Kind of weird since Father Wild was shocked and on a plane and they had just extended his contract.

Look, I don't dislike Tom...he was a nice starter coach until we were ready to get serious about basketball.

But comparing, if you assume both inherited final four programs, their next 5 years is curious:

TC:

NIT
NIT
1st
1st
2nd

BUZZ:

2nd
1st
Sweet 16
Sweet 16
NCAA ??
