Easy, big fellah.  There very well may be some dipshats posting in this thread.

The amount of blind defense of everything Buzz does on this board is completely dumbfounding.

Buzz definitely taking some grilling on the interwebs tonight on some sights.  Not a good move.  He's young, he'll learn from it.

Buzz was right, and that's when officials get most pissed.

You're right. Even officials who are taking the year off blowing their whistle in pursuit of 10,000 posts on Scoop do that. Everyone makes mistakes - it's only pathetic when someone gets stupid angry in defense of theirs.

We had the same amount of blind defense of Crean when he was here.    We frequently held our tongues because he was our guy.  Now you are mad because MU fans (A) defend their current coach and (B) are critical of our former coach.    Weird.
Buzz is a good coach.   He is still a work in progress, but IMO it was a weak T.

Maybe we should be a bit more honest about both.  Instead of being 100% critical of the former guy and harping on 3 losses and not 21 or 22 wins, we understand he was a good coach.  Same for Buzz, in that he's a really good coach, but is a human being also and does make some mistakes.

Tonight was one of them.  They're going to make mistakes, all of them.  I don't know why we ignore it when our guy does it, but we go crazy (beyond normal crazy) when someone else does it.  Illogical.

All I know is we've had a lot more inane IU chatter around here since you've been back, and if that doesn't stop you might have to go away again.

Let's do a Poll. Question: After a poor performance/loss, which Scoop poster will scour the inter webs in search of criticism for our coach and bring it to our attention?

A Chicos
B Anybody else

Certain to be the first unanimously correct poll in Scoop history.

Granted I didn't read the whole thread, but subbing or not subbing wouldn't have made a difference on the technical. The T was after a Georgetown player hacked at Gardner as he made a move in the post and no foul was called. You could argue if Gardner wasn't in the game then the play wouldn't have occurred, but I think Buzz was just on high alert and this was bound to happen.

Yup. I got that feeling as well. I'd much rather it happen there, than in a tie game, or to have MU get a late lead erased.

12 minutes is plenty of time to erase a 7 point lead. The T didn't help, but it didn't cost them the game. The extra possessions that Georgetown got from TOs and offensive rebounds did.

wojosdojo

Didn't read the whole thread either, but I would assume it can be difficult for these guys to get in any sort of rhythm at times when Buzz is shifting guys in and out non stop. We needed some sort of rhythm tonight.

I felt the poster was talking specifically about my immediate post...not something earlier in the thread.  Then you go back and hump my leg with something I said earlier and not relevant to what I was talking about.

I just thought that I would kick the puppy off my leg before he made a mess of things.

So next time son, please address specifically what I am talking about and don't bring up irrelevant sh*t.  Got it?

How come they will change some out of bound calls and not others?

So according to someone who was at the game, the baseline ref, closest to the play, signaled MU ball.    The ref over by the MU bench, overruled the call, giving the ball to G-town.    To follow what we then saw on TV, Buzz says 4 times "It's not his call".    And gets a momentum changing T.

Buzz was right, it wasn't his call.

Just because he's right doesn't mean you constantly repeat it.  Should have just cut his losses and he probably knows that.  Learning experience...

Buzz was also on the court...not just on this call but also many others. We know it is his ADD, but it catches up with you on a play like this when he has a lightening rod reaction. He and the official were even going at it after the T in the middle of the MU huddle during a time out. Buzz earned it.

He had a legitimate gripe about how it was handled, even though it was a really really tough call.

He took it way too far and earned the technical.

The T killed an 11-4 start to the second half for MU.  GU then goes on a 12-5 run and pushes the lead back to 10.  Game over.

The repeating isn't a problem. The sense that Buzz was right in calling out the official for overstepping his bounds is what gets him a technical. No one, not even the cashier at Target, enjoys being told what their job is or isn't.

I've witnessed high school coaches cuss out a referee like a drunken sailor just off a four way orgy with a wet puppy to no discipline. Very often it comes down to a short leash on the black/white's part than it does the long repeated raging of a coach.

tower912

Almost all coaches at that level get T'd up from time to time.   Frequently, it galvanizes their team.   Last night, it killed the momentum.    Sucks.  On to Pitt.

Honest question: What the heck is the official doing in the middle of the MU huddle? I see this now all the time. Officials used to walk AWAY to give coaches a chance to cool down. Now they seem to want to interject themselves into the action. Happens in baseball all the time too. What's up with that?

I didn't have to scour anything.  Google alerts sends me every day whenever Buzz Williams is mentioned (been a problem lately as I keep getting emails about the "buzz" and "williams" combined which often leads to recruiting football articles).  Right there in a bow in my email account.  Barely have to lift a finger.  Last night, most of the stories were dominated by Buzz's technical.

B...."Anybody Else" is often run out of here because they get tired of being ransacked by other posters for daring to say something.

At the end of the day, bad move.  I also said, again, he's a very good coach and will learn from it.  I suspect he will.  Smart guy who continues to get better each year.

I have no problem with the T. Do not think it changed game to great extent. We stunk the joint up and deserve to lose. More turnovers than baskets made on the road with under five to go...you deserve to lose. I wish he had really blown a gasket and woke up the lazy team.

I disagree, I don't think that's the way to wake up the team.  In the right moment or the right situation when you are backing up one of your players, that might be the case, but in this scenario Buzz just looked foolish.  The team had to hold him back and calm him down.

I agree we lost the game due to excessive turnovers and the outcome had little to with the T.  But I think Buzz knows he was in the wrong.  At least I hope he does.
