DWilson with a 3?   Who knew?    Juan should absolutely be starting because he is showing maturity and restraint on defense.   JWilson is just going out and fouling.    The good news is that his typical 8 minutes and 2 fouls in the first half is leading to more minutes for Taylor.   Vander has grown and matured.    Buzz referenced in his post game presser that VB had put himself in toxic conditions on and off the court but has grown and matured.   Chris had a really good game.   USF was scared of him.    The call against Gardner was the correct one.   Hopefully, this is a teachable moment for DG, as recently, IMO, his demonstrations of frustration have been overshadowing his play.   Good to see Mayo out there.   He still hasn't found his groove.   Taylor is good and getting better.   He is going to be special.  Nice win.   On to Louisville.

Lockett continues to puzzle, though.

Has not lived up to preseason billing and really got beat badly on that slam.

MU B2002

This isn't ASU, and he isn't being asked to carry the offensive load. I will take 10 and 8 from lockett every game.  Also He wasn't the only one that got beat on that slam, and btw that was an unbelievable play by Rudd.

Lots of missed opportunities yesterday for Trent.  but, I'd bet he knows that.

I was quite pleased with Lockett's play. Lots of little things done well in addition to the 10 and 8. He is growing on me as a steady contributor Buzz can count on. Yes, he is still not a great athlete. And yes, he still is not as good as some of us expected when we heard about the transfer. But there is a reason Buzz plays him as much as he does.

and that would be.....?

Lockett played fine.  Has a couple turnovers early, but generally played good defense, rebounded well, and got to a couple loose balls.  I have no problems with how he played yesterday - I'll take that anyday.

I am really excited by the emergence of both Juan Anderson and Steve Taylor.  Both really played well yesterday.

madtownwarrior

did you listen to Buzz post-game?  Lockett's minutes are not going to change.

Given the criticism this board, do we have anyone that should be starting?   Besides Jamal Ferguson?   Is Vander good enough for you all now?

No. the post game is not carried in New England.

I assume you mean *your* preseason billing? What did you rate of him prior to joining the program? Were you familiar with his game in Tempe?

BTW, Lockett is hardly the first MU player to be badly beaten on an individual play for a monster dunk. Doesn't equate to him sucking donkey every minute he's on the court.

StillAWarrior

Lockett has not been the player I "thought" he was -- I thought he'd be more of a scorer.  But, I really like the player that he is.  He's a great addition to the team.  Love those rebounds from the guard spot.  I'm not going to hold it against him that I didn't know much at all about him from his time at ASU.  That's my issue, not his.
Never wrestle with a pig.  You both get dirty, and the pig likes it.

As Buzz stated in the post game, if Trent could cut down his turnovers by half he'd be among our most valuable players.  His ability around the rim with loose balls is extremely valuable.

Can't say enough about Steve Jr.  The game is coming to him now.  Huge potential and tremendous growth since early December.  Expect consistant 15 minutes a game.

try listening sometime, you may appreciate buzz's insights and get a picture of why he plays certain players...

I dont think that my expectations were much different from on this board.  He was touted as a highly sought after transfer who would add an outside shooting dimension that we sorely needed.  No one said he" sucked donkey" every minute that he's on the court although I do admire your talent for hyperbole and colorful description.

Actually he didn't have the reputation as a great outside shooter.  In fact he hardly shot from deep at all when at ASU...averaged only 2 3PA per game last year.

Agreed.  That said, I like him out there.

I like Juan's emergence.  There were a couple times where he was directing the show out on defense - getting everyone to their proper matchup.

If Steve continues to develop the way he has since the start of the season...  Wow.

In his final season at ASU he shot .412 from 3 pt. range compared with .286 with us so far.

I was very happy with Vander's rebounding last night as well.  I remember Buzz calling him out for his rebounding on a postgame show earlier in the season - he's corrected that well for the last 3 games.

I assume since he was only shooting 2 a game, he took wide-open pac12 3's. Maybe he is just being rushed this year? ?-(

41% on 51 attempts.  That's not a lot.

Here is what Yahoo said about him:

"What Lockett did best at Arizona State was attacking the rim off the dribble. He attempted only 51 3-pointers as a junior, but he showed a knack for finishing at the rim, getting to the free throw line or sinking a mid-range jump shot."

That's pretty much exactly what his game has been at MU.

He took a limited number of 3 point shots.  Also I believe Jake Thomas had better numbers from 3 then what he has shown this year.  Easier to shoot the 3 against inferior competition.  The Big East has big time talent.

Well, there you go.

You had no idea what kind of player Lockett was for the Devils and therefore had exaggerated expectations coming into the season leading to you being puzzled as to why he's playing the minutes he is playing.

As for MU media stuff, google YouTube, type Marquette Athletics into the search bar, subscribe to the Marquette Athletics channel and you can watch Buzz' press conferences. Anytime you want. And you can still get to bed at 23.01 when the final buzzer sounds.
