Buzz sure knows how to pick 'em. I love this type of team mentality.

"I have never asked him (Williams). That's just the faith I have in him as my coach to make the right decision. To be great, you can't challenge the system because then the younger guys will look at you and go, 'This guy isn't doing it and he's been here longer than I, so I shouldn't do it, either."

I also like the fact that he lists Juan Anderson--who is the guy bumping him from the starting lineup--as his best friend on the team, saying that he's "like a little brother."  Hopefully that helps for both him and Juan in this situation--understanding that it is good for both to have some experience and exposure, and keep them tied in to the team mentality.

Bumping this...great read about a great kid. Proud to have him in a Warrior uniform, he is a great rep for Marquette.

JWilson still plays starters minutes.    When he stays out of foul trouble.    Jae Crowder came off of the bench as a junior for the same reason.   He did OK.
Luke 6:45   ...A good man produces goodness from the good in his heart; an evil man produces evil out of his store of evil.   Each man speaks from his heart's abundance...

It is better to be fearless and cheerful than cheerless and fearful.

thanks for the bump, I had missed this one. Good Article, Great Kid...

Mike Broeker tweets that its a nice article but says that "coach unavailable for comment" is really "failure to ask" ( at media avaiability session )

Heh.

And Jamil plays plenty.  He shouldn't view it as a demotion because it isn't one.

He shouldn't, no, but would many in his position do so? I think so. Not only is he not pouting about it, he's using it as a teaching moment to show leadership to the younger guys. He's a stand up guy. Great to see him starting to hit his stride on the court, he is earning the minutes he is getting for sure.

This shows why jamil is such a great guy but at the same time the great ones would see this as a demotion and use it as fuel. Doesn't mean he has to question buzz but usually the better players start and I would take it as I need to do better to earn my spot back.

Eta: if Jamil started putting up 20/12 every game, there's no way he would be coming off the bench. I think Buzz honestly thinks Juan brings a bigger punch to start out the game.

I see your point but I think Buzz is in tune with what motivates his players. Seems Jamil has been playing better since coming off the bench, maybe viewing it as his role is that of a spark coming off the bench motivates him more than trying to get the starting role.

If the team wasn't as deep as it is this year, I'd think Jamil was just not trying that hard but I actually don't think having the starting role has as much to do with player importance as it has in other years.
