Cooley post game

"Marquette has been doing the same thing every year Buzz has been here. They throw it inside and get to the free-throw line. They are the easiest scouting report in the Big East. There is no secret to what they do."

Really hammers home the point about our philosophy.  Teach defense defense defense; follow buzzs basic tenet of offensive success (paint touches) which will always spawn good shots; and play hard as hell.  No other way to explain how we can be such an easy offensive scout and still win so many damn big east games in 5 years.  Keep it simple, recruit the talent, and get them to play hard.

A few years ago, we weren't throwing it inside, we were beating guys off of the dribble and passing opposite and then doing it again and again until there was a lay up or an open 3.    MU isn't doing that this year.    Which to me, really shows Buzz's ability.   He can win with one of the shortest, shallowest teams in D1, but one that can shoot the 3.    He can win with a team of normal size, lots of depth and poor outside shooting.   All running the same offense and the same defense, but emphasizing different things, playing to strengths and hiding weaknesses.

You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

The one constant is Get to the Line, Get to the Line, Get to the Line.   Buzz's teams are all built to draw fouls and shoot free throws.  Its furstrating sometimes because they aren't great pure shooters and the games get ugly sometimes.  But I think Buzz would rather get 2 from the line and a foul on the opposing player than a simple made FG.  I also remember a few years ago Buzz saying he needed 9 1/2 high major players.  (Thought the 1/2 was kind of funny)  Anyway he now has them and next year he may very well have 13 high major players.
