Am I crazy, or has there been a dearth of Cracked Sidewalks articles this season?  Last post: Jan 12?  Mike Hunt just isn't doing it for me.  I need some quality, in-depth analysis.  God, it's been a long week with a loss and no games.

I think tht with anonymous eagle and paint touches getting more views they just aren't as popular as they used to be and hence aren't devoting the time.  Granted just a theory.

I haven't posted as much this season because I've been busy with work stuff and honeymoon planning. I'll try to get something up after next week. Hopefully the rest will see this and be similarly inspired

Yeah .. unfortunately.

Speaking for myself .. My excuse for not writing is that .. truth is, I know diddly about basketball.  The height of my basketball knowledge is that apparently you're not supposed to let the paint dry when running the picket fence.  When I wrote, it was pedestrian, arm-chair QB stuff.  Years ago, there was a market for that, as the volume of MU articles wasn't there.    I'm better at the tech side of things, creating the community, etc.

CS started 9 years ago now.  In those first 5-6 years, there really wasn't anyone out there beyond whoever was the JS beat reporter.   MU wasn't doing image galleries or videos.  No one was putting up videos of haunted hoops, or senior night speakers, so I grabbed a camera and did it.  Eventually, MU started doing that stuff and it wasn't important for me to take amateur stuff from the seats. 

CS stayed (is) alive by finding decent writers who had something to say.  Each has their own reason for their passion waning and not writing often any more.  To an extent, I imagine each feels like it's not as important as it once was, since other outlets started ramping up their volume (the JS didn't have a blog back then, you got a pre-game and post-game article, and that was that.)   Paint Touches does a great job too (and we tried to get them on board!)

Strangely, CS still gets 600-1000 hits per day, so it's still a decent platform for writers.

I found my way to the MU hoops community and Scoop via Cracked Sidewalks.  Like many others out there, I was just an old grad who liked the team and followed as best I could.  5 or 6 years ago, Cracked Sidewalks let me know that there were others out there like me, but with more bball IQ and passion.   And now there are more and varied platforms that all serve different functions and portions of the MU hoops community, from the broadest base school sponsored sites to the individual Tweets of players and followers.

It seems to me that the CS function has migrated (whether intentionally or more in a "life happens" way) to more of an occasional in-depth metric focused platform.  Which is cool.

This isn't meant as an obit, but more of a belated thanks and to say whatever direction CS takes, I'll still look with interest there, while paticipating here.  And by the way, I don't buy fro a second mu_hilltopper's claim to know diddly about bball!

Thanks, and to add my apologies to BrewCity and Hilltopper.  I suddenly took over and created the Sports Section for www.breitbart.com, and am responsible for making sure we get 6 or 10 pieces up a day.  I appreciate Jajuannaman noting it.

While that is a paid position, I actually insisted on putting in the contract that I still be able to post with Cracked Sidewalks by name, so I do hope to again start on a more regular schedule.  The first month is just a lot of work actually learing how to program, pull in and size AP photos, and a lot of logistical things in editing other articles and writing my own. And I assume everyone knows our work for Cracked Sidewalks is all volunteer and for love of MU!

I have been able to get in a photo of Davante on big guys who can shoot free throws, of Jimmy Butler in the win over Kobe, one of the three videos we run each day of the refs sending MU the wrong way in overtime, and of course Jae Crowder in an explanatoin of Value Add.

Now that I'm getting through the learning curve I should be able to start posting a bit more regularly again, and hopefully BrewCity can figure out the marriage thing quickly and get back to more important stuff too LOL!

I would encourage any poster here who has an interest in hoops to be a guest contributor if they have the wont.  CS has run a few of my posts originating from here which led to a few other pieces, whose origin mainly eminated from questions out of this board.  I won't speak for the CS power brokers, but I will from my experience being a "guest blogger" there.

The contributors have varied professional backgrounds ranging from direct ties to MU's basketball program, to media, to athletic administration to communication, journalism, engineering and deep math, or IT to make the effort seamless--even for some one like me.  How cool is it that these guys are starting to get big time national exposure.  They made the experience very easy for me....and safe.

There are some positives and negatives.  The exposure and access to your ideas is a big step up.  You need to be fresh, provocative and new but also measured.  You may get some further big time exposure to the world and other national media outlets which is pretty cool...but you also are more open to criticism.  On Scoop, you can spout off and be off color or spew gossip--generally it is on-line bar talk here which is a lot of fun for me. However, it may not translate onto this higher visibility stage...or may follow you back and forth.  In the end, it is pretty cool to be in the stands or in a bar after a game and hear people talking about your piece or to get a shout out nationally...or see your piece being retweeted.

As to content and because I am not a trained journalist or communications person, I tried to write as a fan.  I tried to answer questions fans think about or to relay fan experiences in my quirky way.  If you are a referee, write a piece from that perspective...or if you are a coach or ex-player, bring that to the conversation.  If your background is PT, then write about sports injuries.  If a female or student fan, add those perspectives.

In the end, I think conference realignment and the Buzz, new Admin talk has burnt a lot of folks out...but a new charge of thoughts out there from you would be welcomed, IMO.

Let your voice be heard!  MU's community is a very active, educated  and involved fan base.  It will be well-appreciated.

Wondered what happened to Cracked Sidewalks.  It used to be my first source for MU basketball news.  Now, it's MU Scoop - which sad to say has declined in quality comments drastically this year.
