I'm assuming Cincy because Syracuse is the only team in front of us in the standings. Normally, I do like having teams like Syracuse in the top 5 to keep winning to give our conference good representation with the top teams in the country.

brewcity77

Logically, Cincy. But I'm hoping Syracuse can come into the BC ranked #1. Not impossible if they keep winning for the next month.

Cuse not playing with half the energy that they played with on Saturday.

Classic trap/letdown game. Knock off the #1 team in the country and then lose next game out at home. Obviously it isn't over yet but it looks like that's the wy it's headed.

nyg

Cincy imploded in last four minutes.

Cashmere Wright took three shots from at least 25 feet and missed them all, plus made a terrible turnover.

Man I am going to miss the BE hoops.

AirPunches

Cashmere wright was 2/13 with 5 points. Last three cincy possessions. Wright miss three. Wright turnover. Wright miss three. Kilpatrick didnt even get the ball in the last 5 min. What I'm saying is that when a player is out, it changes the dynamic of the team and that can be for the better just as easily as it is for the worse.

nyg

Those last three shots Wright took were beyond NBA three range and were brutal.  Ballgame.

They both had big wins on Saturday, but Cincy's game ended several hours later and they were the road team today. Tough turnaround for both teams but not a trap/letdown one, classic or otherwise.

probably better that cuse won. won't hurt Cincy's RPI or make our loss look any worse, but it will give us more of a cushion to be in the top 4 come BE Tourney time.
Cuse and LVille are going to battle it out for first all season, so it'll be a mix of MU, Cincy, Pitt, ND and Gtown for the last 2 double-byes (big game tonight between the Irish and Hoya). I say the more room we can put between those 4 teams and us the better.
Also, there's usually one suprise team in the league every year. last year it was USF, and has been MU in the past. Wonder if it could be Rutgers or St Johns this season? my guess is neither, but st Johns seems to have the most talent, just very young and inconsistent.

This guy gets it. It's all about what helps MU more, and in this instance, it's all about MU finishing in the top 4, and in fact, they are building up a nice cushion(and will even more if ND loses tonight) for no worse than 3rd in the Big East.

I want this quote to serve as a reminder to the vast majority of scoop posters in regards to the MU BB program.

Yes, depended on your view of MU.  If you legitimately think they can go 15-3 and have a shot at the regular season title, then you have to root for Cincy.  If you think they are only competing for a top 4 finish, then Cincy losing is the better result.

TJ

Cincy.  Why would we cheer for Syracuse?  They are evil.

After watching the Cuse- Louisville game on sat i don't think there is any shame in setting a goal to finish in the top 4 and assume one of those 2 will win the title. Even buzz said last year they set a goal of 13 wins, so we know he has reasonable expectations of his guys. At 4-1 with a few winnable games coming up, we could be 6-1 headed into Louisville with very little to lose... Nd looks like they will have a tough time winning tonight, will put us 2 games up on the 4th place teams. Great spot to be with a week off.

Do you "legitimately" believe Marquette will only lose twice the rest of the season?

This.  Back in December we'd all be thrilled with a double bye at the Garden as it would absolutely guarantee a trip to the dance with a reasonably solid seed in hand.  Here in the BEast, the key will be to hold serve at home avoiding losses to anyone other than the absolute TOP teams and win a decent share of your road games.  So far, MU has overperformed.  It'll be important to play solid ball on Saturday AND Monday going into Louisville the weekend after with only upside potential in that game.  No letdowns this weekend men.  These are critical games.

(Think it's a little cold in South Bend this morning?)

No.  Going game by game, it's doesn't seem impossiible, but I think they will settle in at 12-6, maybe 13-5.  I was just explaining the different philosophies one could have in determining who to root for.  Realistically, Cincy losing is the better result.
