I know there is no need for Jamal to be on the court this year and he probably doesn't deserve playing time with Blue emerging and Mayo coming back but does anyone know his personal feelings on the program and staying here? Does he have any intentions of leaving? Havent gotten to see him much and don't really know his potential but just would like to have him stick around to see what he could become.

brewcity77

No idea, but I find it hard to believe this wouldn't have been expected. This team is crazy deep. He simply won't get much time yet.

3 guards coming in next year also kinda worries me about him staying.

If Jamal feels like he cannot compete for playing time then he will leave. Not a thing to be worried about there.

jficke13

He's long and blazing fast. If he's got any manner of ball handling skills and a shot, he'll see the court next year. I think next year will be kind of like this year, crazy deep, lot's of guys splitting minutes.

Being a soph next season gives him a significant advantage over the in-coming frosh (think of Juan vs Taylor right now). I don't think Jamal is going to be a star for Marquette, but he should be a very solid contributor over the next few seasons. The kid can play.

When he came in last night I was surprised, but I was also hoping to see him play a little and not get yanked 30 seconds later after a bad defensive play.  I understood, but it was disappointing.

He's like a gazelle out there when he's running the court.  So fast and smooth.

He looks like he gets it.  His body language isn't like that of let's say Maymon or even that of Erik Williams.

Ferguson came in for one reason last night...to give DWil a quick rest before the 8 minute TV timeout.  Junior had 2 fouls and Buzz put JF in at about the 8:20 mark, knowing that the TV timout was coming up and he would put DWil back in.  JF getting pulled had little to do with the defensive mistake and more to do with giving Wilson a blow....

Fair enough.  I still was disappointed that those 30 seconds consisted of a bad turnover/bad fast break defense instead of a normal possession.

What does this mean?  I don't think he's been on the court enough to show you that he gets it.

His demeanor on the bench and getting up for time-outs.  Doesn't look sulky or otherwise disappointed.  Seems supportive of his teammates.

Oh OK...make sense.

That being said, I am not quite sure where he fits if everyone comes back next year.  He will still have Blue and Mayo in front if him.

thanooj

He seems taller/longer than our guards.  More j Wilson than blue.  He will fit in the rotation like Juan does this year playing the "3" as a slashing forward more than as a guard.

The first time I saw jamal play, he reminded us of a young Dwayne Wade.  He plays smooth.  The question is that we have so many good athletes on the team will he be able to get minutes?

Hards Alumni

Hey everyone, remember when Juan Anderson wasn't getting any PT last year around this time, and similar people were worried?

How is Juan doing this year?

TJ

I'm not worried at all.  I just hoped to see some basketball in his 30 seconds of PT, rather than a bad turnover followed by bad transition defense.

i don't think he needs to get big minutes next year either.  watching the buzz show the other day homer was interviewing j wilson, and mentioned how hight he gets up for rebounds.  j. wilson then stated that ferguson is the only player that ever gets up over him because he's so long.  with that type of athleticism and length he just needs to develop...who better to play for than buzz when that's the case at the positions he can play.

Zar Zar Binks

Agree with the your points on development and how playing for buzz will help a "switchable" like him. However, I'm pretty sure J Wilson said that Steve Taylor Jr. was the one who could jump higher than him.

Actually Jamil said it was Steve Taylor who gets over him because of his long arms...not Jamal...just to clarify.  I like what I've seen of Ferguson thus far - think he breaks out as a Junior, running alongside Duane Wilson, Mayo, Jujuan Johnson, Steve Taylor, and Jameel McKey with some help from Juan Anderson and Deonte Burton..
"I'm not sure Cadougan would fix the problems on this team. I'm not even convinced he would be better for this team than DeWil is."

I don't usually like comparing players to DWade out loud (for fear of it coming back to bite me in the a$$), but I would have to agree with you. I also see a little Dameon(sp?) Mason with a better attitude/demeanor.

dang...then we should probably cut him :-)

what a nice problem buzz has to be loaded with so much talent.

I would imagine we would have to lose some people. The only two definitely leaving are Junior and Lockett, Otule would be leaving if he doesn't get his medical hardship for a 6th year.

GGGG

It really is going to depend on his attitude and work-ethic because honestly I haven't seen anything but athleticism.  Don't get me wrong, athleticism is good, but he has to develop some sort of offensive game, and hopefully can develop like Juan has from his freshman to sophomore year.
