Do top 25 rankings matter?

It doesn’t matter. It’s pointless. No one cares. From the amount of Twitter dialogue I’ve seen, it seems like there has been a recent, more noticeable, backlash to the in-season basketball polls of late. Writers and fans alike have been ... Continue reading →

When we stop talking, really bad stuff happens.

What about the affect the top 25 rankings have on TV ratings...and subsequently how much networks are willing to pay conferences for TV rights.

What about seedings in the tournement

what about recruiting

what about national exposure and subsequent higher donations due to increased pride

I don't think rankings impact tournament seedings at all. We've seen ranked teams completely miss the tournament (#22/21 Utah State in 2004) and rarely do the seedings really seem to match up with the rankings.

Obviously you'd rather be ranked, but the committee's going to select who the committee's going to select.

They matter most to me, because I always look to see what top 25 teams are playing. I assume a lot of other people accross the country do the same thing. You get forgotten, if you are not in top 25.

Do Luke Winn's "Power Rankings" on SI.com matter?  MU failed to get a look this week (not in top 32).  I'm excited to be 4-0.  But were those wins soft?
