Guess this means MU can re-hire him when Buzz leaves after this season.

QuoteSaid O'Neill:  "I enjoyed my four years at USC.  It is a special place.  I enjoyed the people I worked with, the players I coached and our fans.  I thank USC for allowing me to guide their program.  I couldn't be more proud to work anywhere.

"I would encourage all of our recruits to honor their commitment to USC and help build the Trojan program in the right direction."

The career arc after MU was not to good

Based on those comments, he either got a great walk away package, or he wants to back to the NBA (or both).

KO to the Bucks!

Hi career arc might not be great but gladly would cash the weekly paychecks he has received since his MU days. He left for money and has done pretty well since.

Hey, why not? I actually don't think that wouldn't be a bad move by Team Fear The Deer.

I am not sure Milwaukee is quite ready for return visit by KO.

KO walks a fine line.  I will be forever grateful to him for removing MU hoops from life support, but basketball played with his style is deadly dull.  If you're going to do that, you'd better win, because nobody wants to watch a team that loses 52-45 all the time.  I also think the all-encompassing televising of major college hoops HAS to hurt his recruiting, because when you can repeatedly watch that style of basketball and see what you're getting into, why would you want to play that way if you had other options at the same level?

O'Neill hates recruiting. Told me that personally during his NBA days. And who can blame him? In the NBA, you coach. In college, you lie to the moms of 18-year-olds and then babysit their kids.

I believe KO did a great job of putting Tenn mbb on the map.  Prior to his coaching there they were a non-entity.  He got some recruits and earned an invite to the big dance.  I don't know how long it had been since they had been there, if ever.  His tenure was cut short mainly by his bombastic court-side language.  Otherwise, he might still be there.

He was damn good at it though.

Nice.  Although I think some believe stories of his vocabulary are exaggerated.

Agree, Sultan. He's not the only college coach who finds the recruiting process to be totally distasteful but nevertheless excels at it because it simply is what one has to do.

Not going out on a limb here but there has to be more to the story. You do not see guys whacked in Jan very often. My bet is he did what he could to make things end now rather thah wait until March. I do think getting canned in Jan adds to the KO legacy. Granted his legacy is filled with high and lows.

I used past tense for a reason though.  He wasn't very good at it at USC.

Haden is doing a complete overhaul of the coaching ranks. KO now before they put a miracle run together and Kiffin in 11 months. Trojans played their best game of season over weekend and Haden couldn't take the risk much longer.

I am sticking with KO did something out there and that is reason for the Jan exit. He is one guy that nothing shocks me. Most coaches fired in midseason would be far more surprising.
