They should only get more time if the goal is to lose more games and sink our NCAA hopes. If Buzz wants to get fired, they should get a lot more time. Both should start and see 20-25 mpg, more if they can take it.

God no. Unquestionably no. They aren't ready on the defensive end. I'm glad Taylor can contribute a few minutes here and there when Juan and Jamil are in foul trouble, but I don't need to see them any more than that. They aren't ready.

You think our perimeter defensive issues are new this year?  This has been a major problem since Buzz has gotten here and is inherent with the scheme they play - teams that rotate the ball quickly are invariably going to get a decent look from deep.  How are Ferguson or Taylor going to change that?

  1. MU's problem is perimeter defense.
  2. Ferguson is long and plays the lane.
  3. Body size (i.e. being long) means nothing when guarding the perimeter.
  4. Therefore, playing Ferguson is the answer to MU's perimeter defense problems.

Does this make sense to you?

I think they are at about the right amount of minutes right now... I could maybe see S Taylor getting a couple more ticks.  I agree with what you said (in the other thread I think) that Jake Thomas deserves less time.  He is really bringing nothing to the table right now and overall is just a liability on the court.  I don't see how swapping his minutes with Taylor would be a bad thing.  With Vander, Mayo, Blue, D Wislon, and then Lockett, Jamil, Juan, and Taylor who can all kinda play that in betweener role, I just don't see where Thomas fits in.  Sure, ideally he could spread the defense out with his shot, but it isn't there, and everyone realizes that.  I trust that Buzz is trying to get him into his rythym and get his confidence as a shooter going, but he's not aggressive (which everyone else on our team is, so him not being aggressive slows down everyone) and he's slow on defense.

So yes, I wouldn't be against giving Taylor and Ferguson a couple more minutes, if it means Thomas will be getting a couple less minutes.

Thomas' minutes have fallen off the map since Mayo got back.  In the last three games he has gotten 3, 5 and 2.  Should Ferguson get those minutes instead of him?  I don't know...Buzz doesn't seem to think so.  Thomas at least knows where he is supposed to be and what he is supposed to be doing.

Taylor will play more in situations where it is called for.  Against UConn, who had a relatively weak front court, his interior scoring was important...but he still screwed up defensively.  Against Georgetown's length, it was clear that Buzz thought more experienced options like Lockett and Wilson were better - and they both had solid games.

I haven't thought that Juan has brought much to the floor his defense is average at best, he still gets caught in bad positions, and hasn't been able to help on drives as well as he should.  His offense has been well below average missing open jumpers his fg% 381 ft%.526 and 3fg% .250 is horrible.  I think Taylor and Juan should be splitting minutes some what like CO and Gardner do when Wilson is in foul trouble.  However it all depends on the team that we're playing and if we need defense or offense more.

To me, it doesn't seem like Thomas knows where or what he is supposed to be doing.

But you're right, Buzz obviously sees something and that's why he is in there.  The correct answer is that Taylor and Ferguson are Freshman and have A LOT to learn/adapt to.  Their big experience should come on the practice court right now... but I think Taylor has been holding his own for the limited time he's been getting.

I think Taylor can plug in and help not hurt the team.  Ferguson has a long wingspan and looks like a gifted athlete.  They both should play more.

Me too.  I think Taylor is playing the appropriate amount minutes but Ferguson should've gotten more PT up to this point over Thomas.  He probably won't see much time the rest of the way though.  Unfortunatly, I think he'll probably end up transfering after his Soph season as I believe JaJuan Johnson will pass him on the depth chart next season.

I've beem reading around and alot of you are ok with MU just making the tournament. One question: WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU MEDIOCRE ASS WIPES! Demand more and way may get more. I want Final Four. I want Championship. It's possible.
