It sure looks to me like Jamil travels almost every time he catches a pass as he comes across court.  Has any one else noticed that?

mug644

I noticed it on one particular possession in the 2nd half. But I recall feeling the same way often with Lazar when he came up as the trailer and received the pass at the top of the key.

Dr. Blackheart

I did notice Napier carrying the ball on every possession too.

Jamil is just overall sloppy with the ball. Completely disappointed in his play. Seems like he doesn't care to be out on the floor and was not even phased when he fouled out.

Kid needs to man up and play like a warrior.

I am concerned about his momentum killing offensive fouls.

Its amazing that he took 2 out of our last 3 shots at the end of the second half, the third being Cadougan's 3-pointer. He had no rythmn and I believe Mayo should have been in instead of him late in the game especially on offense.

I disagree with some of this. I thought he played very hard yesterday, especially in the second half. Dove on the floor a couple of times, really ran the court, willingly took a couple big shots. Like everybody else, he didn't shoot well, but I thought he was more engaged than in most games. If he plays like this all the time, we will be a much better team.

And yes, he travels pretty much every time he touches the ball. He traveled badly very late in the game and I couldn't believe the refs didn't call it. Of course, they owed us a few ...

To be fair, one of them was when the shot clock was about to expire.  And I thought he had a decent second half and overtime.  Played well off the ball.

I think Junior sometimes starts walking before he dribbles the ball. It only happens when the other team is not contesting the inbounds. Everyone else including the refs are running up court. There was a recent game where Cadougan was actually talking to Buzz and walked about two steps before dribbling.

It's all about scoring points. When are you going to learn Sultan? If Jamil scores a lot of points, no one cares what else he does. If he shoots 2-4 and leads the team in rebounding, he stinks because he had a couple TOs.

To the original point of the thread - I've also noticed that it seems like Jamil often changes pivot feet before dribbling and doesn't have it called a travel.

Yes, Napier did travel almost every possession. He kind of reminded me of God Shamgod (sp?) from Providence, who carried EVERY time he touched the ball back in the day.

How about Ryan Evans? My 3-year-olds dribble more cleanly than that guy.

Napier has also perfected the flailing arm move every time he faced a screen or pick.

+1  I'll take his stat line last night as an improvement.  Bunch of good boards.  Played well in the second half and OT.  Only one brain cramp turnover.  But yes, he seems to travel at times.

Its another of his "Form over Function" plays.  He has gotten in the habit of doing that almost everytime he catches the ball as trailer coming down the court.  It doesn't accomplish anything and its just asking a Ref to call a travel.  I'd like to tell Jamil, "Don't try to do fancy stuff, just do normal dribbles, shot fakes and passes into the post, and shoot when you are open.  You are making the game way to complicated.  With your talent it should be easy."
