Unfortunately, it's not that easy.

I was a member of the last Warrior class and still regard myself as a Warrior. When a team has been blessed with a name for decades, the traditions accompanying it - i.e., mascot and nickname - die hard.

Think of it as someone naming the Green Bay Packers, the Green Bay Millers or Badgers. It just doesn't sound right and even 10 years later, it won't sound right.

It's going to take the generations who are strongly identified with the Warriors to pass on before you start to see a gradual acceptance of the "Golden Eagles".  And then at that time, you're probably going to have most Marquette students saying, "Warriors, WHO?"

If that ever happens and if I am still alive, please use the nearest firearm and put me out of my misery immediately.
Once a warrior always a warrior.. even if the feathers must now come with a beak.

For what it's worth, I was attending Marquette during the "First Warrior" mascot experiment.  It was bad.  I understand the pride of the Native Americans and their desire at the time to portray their ancestors with pride and dignity, but a guy dressed up in authentic garb and doing ceremonial tribal dances at a sporting event just wasn't working.  The crowd would get fired up after a 10-0 run against ND and a time out would be called and this mascot comes out to center court and starts chanting and dancing in a circle.  Talk about a downer.  I grew up a Warrior fan and was a Warrior when I graduated and left Milwaukee - it still is awkward to say anything BUT Warriors.  I remember when they changed the name someone had written in a suggestion, I believe to the Milwaukee Journal, - The Politically Correct Pansies.

Generations before we 'start to see a gradual acceptance' huh?  Yeah ok, i'm pretty sure there is more than a gradual acceptance that I've seen over the last 9 years.  Unless having a couple of kids having a warrior shirt on means that there aren't signs of 'gradual acceptance.'
Oh and if you bitter, old, alums are upset that's fine.  But stop taking it out on kids who do fundraising for MU.  Seriously like an 18 year old who's trying to do their job needs some 45 year old giving them lectures about how if they had any honor they would be out on a picket line protesting something that happened before they could tell you where milwuakee was.

no offense, but they can;t be that good of supporters if they missed fanatic tickets.  they basically send out order forms for the next season the minute the current season ends...

You realize almost 90% of the alumni and over 60% of the current students still associate themselves as warriors??
