I bet the odds for a prop bet in Vegas for him to win are pretty high (i.e. a good bet for the bettor).

Any thoughts from our resident oddsmakers?

I would think he would be in the 5-1 or 7-1 range, max. Vegas isn't dumb.

Did he win or lose against that girl in the 3 pt shooting contest during the 06 final 4?

How will he shoot all the balls if he is compelled to do the discount double check after every make?

It's hard to believe he has never participated before.  So what changed?  Maybe playing in NYC??

You would think he would have been invited if for know other reason than he won the NCAA 3pt contest in 2006.  Oh wait, he won that in Indianapolis!

So, those that think the new C7 should hold its conference tourney in Indy want to remind me again why that is preferable to NYC?

I think it has less to do with being in NYC and more to do with finally actually being in a teams rotation rather than sitting at the end of the Rockets or Clippers bench refilling water bottles.

IIRC, you have to have a certain number of shots to qualify for the event?  he never qualified in the past.

Year   Team     3M-3A      3P%
2007 Houston   34-71       .479    Not invited
2008 Clippers    119-286    .419   Not invited
2010 Dallas       23-42       .548   Not Invited
2011 Knicks      133-282    .472   Not Invited
2012 Knicks      56-121     .435   Invited

Here is how the NBA works ....

Pretty good for the Knicks, Celtics, Lakers, Bulls = Absolutely Awesome on any other team.

Same applies for NCAA conference Tourneys

He did in 2008 but Clippers were still the wilderness.

He did in 2010 but Dallas was the wilderness.

Shot well enough last year but the world was too busy with Linsanity.

The only other year in which he should have been seriously considered was his year with the Clippers. But they were awful and he was not established even one iota in the league. Plus, he only shot 42 percent that year; nice but hardly eye-popping.

Last year with the Knicks, he didn't emerge until February, way too late for anybody to take him seriously as a potential participant.

After leading the league last season, earning a regular rotation spot for a playoff team and having another solid year now, the invite was a no-brainer.

If he played in Portland and put up these kind of numbers, would he have been invited?

Well Wes Matthews is 49-124 foe .395 in Portland and no one is mentioning him to compete.

Novak is 56-131 for .435 (14th in made 3s and 17th in 3P%) and is is not in the NBA wilderness but on the Knicks.

Was Wes just 3 or 4 made 3s from getting invited?  Or was he 3 or 4 made 3s but 3000 from NYC away from getting invited?  I say the latter.

Maybe you're right, but the Knicks have had 3-point participants only 7 times in the contest's three-decade history.

Novak led the league last year and is regarded as one of basketball's great pure shooters. Sure, the exposure he got in NY helped, but he undoubtedly earned the nod this time.

As the only auburn-Marquette fan, can I get a little love for Charles Barkley saying Novak was the best 3-point shooter in the league during his playoff broadcasts.

(I'm also the only person with "wade Barkley court" painted on a court outside his house, and every year I hope for Marquette and Auburn to finish in the top 10 (of the nation and sec respectively, though that may never happen again for auburn now that there are 14 teams in the sec)
The www.valueaddsports.com analysis of basketball, football and baseball players are intended to neither be too hot or too cold - hundreds immerse themselves in studies of stats not of interest to broader fan bases (too hot), while others still insist on pure observation (too cold).

My little bro isn't an Auburn fan but he was a HUGE Barkley fan during the player's NBA days. And he loves MU, of course.

Who won the NCAA  3 pt contest any other year?  Nobody in the NBA cares what you did in the NCAA....
