Real Chilly Podcast

sometimes I think it's natural for us to get caught up in the dizzying nature of life and the rate at which it happens, especially as evidenced by Scoopers' fervor and anxiousness surrounding our conference alignment situation as the news and rumors have come to a boil.  as nerve racking as the situation is, I suggest we all take a moment to appreciate the fact that we are a part of a small percentage of Programs/FanBases/Alumni in the nation actually proactively changing the face of College Basketball for the course of its history.

Sure, conference realignment has always been part of the college landscape, but not since Naismith started throwing gourds into a basket has basketball been this dismissed relative to football.  So much so that schools like Syracuse even abandon their nest egg.

So when the dust settles on this tectonic shift of conference and television clout, and I look back to explain to my children/grandchildren/etc what happened to college sports in the early 20teens, I can still proudly tell them that Marquette was part of the charge (as well as the rest of C-7, much of the A10, Gonzaga, Creighton/MVC, etc) that was positively trying to retain the dignity, tradition, and integrity of NCAAB, while other schools dashed for the nearest BCS nipple and dragged their basketball programs along by the earlobe.  We sometimes take for granted how impressive a feat it is for a private school of ~10k students can fill a 20k arena and beat the vag-tears out of a corn-fed B1G school of 50k or beat #1 UConn by 35 on our first swing.

Now I didn't mean for this to turn into one big circle-jerk for us and UDPride and everyone else. but no matter where the chips fall and what conferenc we land in, this is a time to be proud to be a basketball-only school, especially one that is leading the shaping of the major CBB landscape while others play vulture or musical chairs.

Good day to you all.

Get real. You're never going to talk to your grandchildren about this. This isn't like integrating schools in the south or the "I have a dream speech". It's a bunch of big companies deciding how to make the most money by partnering up with each other and how a bunch of smaller companies are going to do the same thing with each other because the big companies didn't need them. There are no martyrs or heroes in this crap.

Oh, I will.  With the national anthem playing in the background, holding sparklers, and screaming "DO YOU BELIEVE IN MIRACLES!!!?!?!?!" and running around the house chanting "USA!"

...sorry, I've been watching a lot of Miracle lately.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

I will pass on those stories. I want my grandchildren to enjoy spending time with me.

However this all shakes out, it will make a really great book.  The whole ordeal has Michael Lewis written all over it.

Blackhat

That's gotta be a troll.

Pretty good one too.

So you're gonna teach them about all the greediness?  That loyalty and tradition were flushed away because a more lucrative opportunity came along.  Those kids are gonna be ready to take on the world when you're done with them.

"Grandpa, why does that man drool and pee his pants all the time?"
"Well, either he played football and now his brains are mush, or he was a football coach and doesn't have a pot to piss in after the great overreaching football lawsuit of 2021."

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.
