Golden Eagles in a good place

I know some guys who like to use the term "sittin' good." It generally  applies to those times when the checks clear and the afternoons are free.

Derrick better than Junior?? When did Buzz say that?

muguru

Buzz told Derrick after practice Saturday that he has earned the right to start, but out of Loyalty, he was sticking with Junior.

We live in a society that rewards mediocrity , I detest mediocrity - David Goggi

I want this quote to serve as a reminder to the vast majority of scoop posters in regards to the MU BB program.

QuoteRemember how Buzz Williams stood up before the opening of practice a couple of months ago and said his team might be several games below .500 by Thanksgiving?

OK, so Williams is a notorious sandbagger. Playing possum is how he likes to put it. He was building up Marquette's difficult schedule at the time and trying to head off criticism in case the record looked bad by now.

I don't think Buzz said this to head off criticism. He was just being honest.

I agree - I don't think Buzz was very confident in the team, and he still might not be - but I think he has a tendency to be hyperbolic. He might have been exaggerating when he said he thought we might several games under .500.

Im not trying to nitpick here, because Hunt has clearly been putting up material on MU, but does it seem like it always has jabs a bit at MU in some places and comes off kinda condescending? maybe its just me...

Aw, come on.  This kind of criticism of Hunt right after he writes an article that doesn't mention Marquette being oversigned, all the players who have left the program, or any player that is a cancer on the team!
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

He was lighting a fire under Junior.  He knows how to get a guy goin'

And then Junior goes out and gets SOTG....

Buzz said this almost verbatim in the radio post-game show after the badger game.

I was thinking about the Florida debacle. That was bad, but was it as bad as last year when Vandy destroyed us on our home court?

Remember it well. I thought no way, not ever. I'm starting to come around - bad Derrick is already better than bad Junior. As his confidence grows maybe good Derrick can match/exceed good Junior.

Good Junior can be as good as any of the great MU point guards of the past.

Bad Junior has shown up enough to take him off the list of top MU point guards.

Goose

Good Junior is not in the top ten of great MU PG's. That said, he did have a floater on Saturday that reminded me of Butch Lee. Trust me I know better but the shot coupled with his frame had me thinking 1977 for a second.

You're right.  I think that was actually the SI Cover shot.

I couldn't wait for Thursday and SI to hit the news stands after we won the national championship. Read the story 20 times if I read it once.

Many did the same in 1941 when the Badgers beat Washington State.

And when Notre Dame did it, never.

If bad derrick was  the starter, and bad Junior came in to replace him, you would all be screaming that bad junior is better than bad derrick and needs to start.

There have been all of about 4 minutes this season that Derrick has outplayed Junior (Florida game), so at his best Derrick was better than Junior at his worst.  At all other points this season Junior has outplayed him.  There is no comparison to the two.

Is Derrick getting better, yes.  I am less concerned about him maybe having to take over next year.  But he has a long way to go to match what Junior brings to the table.

Buzz was referring to Derrick's play in practice.  Remember he used to start others because they outplayed the starter in practice, but then pulled them within 2 minutes.

I am with you on the SI cover story. Waited by mailbox for it to arrive and was not disappointed.

LOL.  Headline was "Badgers beat Washington State***"

The bottom of the page read...

"*** SI reckons 95% of able bodied men are overseas at this moment"
