You keep forgetting, the schools that are really screwed are the mediocre football schools looking for a home.

This year and next year we are ok as we still play the major powers of the BE.  After that we can always form a basketball only conference or see if the football powers will take on non-football schools.  We will be fine.

Restated, I think we are better than the likes of Memphis.  You could argue we and Memphis are near equal in basketball but the anvil around Memphis' neck is a mediocre football team that none of the major power conferences want.  Ditto Cincy and Uconn.

Repeat, the good non-football basketball schools will be fine.  They will land on their feet.  And thank god we did not try and start football in the 1980s (which I remember was seriously discussed when I was a student) as that program would probably be mediocre at best and an anvil around our neck.

Not sure if that comment was directed at me, but that's the whole gist of the column. MU will be fine.
