You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Chill, Larry has a plan.

Do you have any proof behind your assertion that LW is hellbent on turning us into SLU?

Stay the course and hope bball only factions come in vogue. Not much else can be done.

The remaining BEast football schools have to be in full panic mode.  I actually feel somewhat sorry for schools like Louisville.

I agree with the 'let's see where the dust settles' approach.  But there does become a point when adding 'Southwest New Mexico State A&M' simply because they play football doesn't make sense for the basketball-only schools.

In many ways, the sooner the remaining football schools can find a new home, the sooner this can shake itself out.

Florida State to the Big XII?

Tommy Brice for Coach

It is time for us to be proactive and lead the way in forming the best BBall only conference possible. I will miss playing Louisville on a regular basis but we can always make them a home and home.

If only we could. There is zero benefit to aggressively pursuing basketball-only.

Sadly, though, this is probably the end of the Big East as we (relatively) know it. Though it's still on Syracuse and Pitt, who started this whole mess.

I don' think you need to necessarily be proactive about it.  That's the last resort, no need to jump the gun, the bball only schools aren't going anywhere.

The Big Ten started it...the rest has all been reactions to those moves.  The real question is, what is the next move?

I'm thinking out loud here - Can The Big East be proactive?  Go after ACC teams?

Rutgers...then FSU? Clemson? UConn? Louisville?

son of a bitch.

MU should have found a way to continue football 50 years ago.

If Maryland goes who's to say FSU won't follow on their way out?  Destabilization can lead to something........or not.

Also this from NY Daily News. Seems more speculation than actual insight/sources but this would the absolute worst case-scenario.

And another thought - Does the Pac-12 do anything?  Don't they have a close relationship with the Big10?  Weren't they trying to mirror each other with equal # of teams, etc.?

Their problem is geography. They weren't able to get OU and Texas, and they have the least attractive potential candidates by far. Who would they go after? BYU, Boise, Nevada, UNLV, New Mexico? Those PAC-12 schools are going have a hard pill to swallow to what they've said before.

Something like this may well be the next phase, where once they have football where they want it, conferences add teams that don't necessarily have football - as the Big East did when it added MU, etc. It will certainly mean the end of the Big East, but given MU's overall athletics program, if it goes this route, there will be a place for them in the ACC, Big10 (God help me), etc.
