28. Marquette Golden Eagles

An improved Vander Blue, who is a better shooter now than at any point in his career, should be enough to vault Marquette into the top half of the Big East. The addition of Arizona State transfer Trent Lockett provides another athletic junkyard dog. The Golden Eagles will be good again.

I would rather have Vander be the paint-touch, penetrator, than the shooter; but dont get me wrong it would be nice to see him drain some jumpers...I just dont think that it is his game, nor what we really need from him. He has the athletic ability to penetrate the lane but often when he has done it the past he made bad judgments, was out-of-control, didn't dish when he could have etc. Hopefully he can do it half as well as DJO, (who was as good as anyone but didn't do it enough).

He made a big jump already from his freshman to sophomore year, from 16% to 26%. If he can get up to 30% as a junior and 33-35% as a senior, that's fairly reliable as a guy primarily counted on to get to the rack.

An athlete can repair and improve his jump shot form in a few months.  Assuming he has the desire, the time to shoot hundreds of Js a day to groove the new form into muscle memory, and a coach to watch him and ensure he's grooving the proper new form.

I think Vander will be a decent threat from 3pt land, even if he can get to something around 30%, that would be nice. So what if his form is ugly, if he makes the shots, so what.

He doesn't need to be Novak, he just needs to shoot around 33%. That will keep defenders honest.

Yeah, a 33% 3pt shooter is the equivalent to a 50% 2pt shooter.  There are very few of those around Division I.  The ones who do are almost exclusively big guys who shoot very close to the hoop.

Yep. If he can take 3 3pters per game and make 1, that will be enough to round out his game.

For instance, Mayo shot 31/93 last year from 3.

Wes and Jerel improved quite a bit in their careers. James didn't.

I guess we'll see how Vander does.
