Jajuan is committing on Wednesday.  Settle down, Chicken Littles.  So much pessimism on this board.

Why Wednesday? Doesn't he know we do things on late Friday afternoons?

Why did you hear they did not enjoy themselves?  Sounded like it was a good event.  With a solid crowd?

Madness like the Buzz imitators just do not live up to the hype/expectations. I do think it was one of the better madnesses at MU, but i always considered it to be a bad idea for recruiting. Much better to bring a recruit in and give him sole attention than to have him watch something that is good, but not special.

I completely agree.  Unless you can get special guests, or ATVs (LOL) it probably isn't the best recruiting tool.

MU's Madness just doesn't compare to the atmosphere generated at programs like UNC, KU, or UK. Sorry, not even close. Aside from the obvious enthusiasm, ya gotta wonder about a kid who would be swayed by such nonsense anyway.

I kept an eye on the recruits during madness. Total boredom.

Unfortunately, the highlight of their emotion was the "Gangnam Style" dance by the women's team. I doubt that swayed them to commit.

Jabari was genuinely interested in watching and cheering for ST during the scrimmage, but that was it.

Put me in the group that thinks Dunking contests are a waste of time.

GGGG

I'm sure Buzz has been doing this long enough to know what is, or isn't effective.

A working microphone and a sound system that wasn't found in the bottom of a Cracker Jack box would help.
Seriously, 2 hours of ear-piercing feedback, distortion and the microphone cutting out does not make for the best environment.

Madness had a great crowd, however the production value left a lot to be desired.

A few pointers to the Athletic dept:
1.  Test the microphones before 7:01pm
2.  An entire new sound system may not be a bad idea.  If the distortion is real bad, don't turn the volume up to try to solve it.
3.  Lose the women's scrimmage.  It was nothing more than a layup drill with the girl breaking into a jog only on rare occasions.  Does not inspire one to attend a women's game.
4.  The 3-point contest women vs. men a couple yrs ago had the building up for grabs.  Might make sense to bring it back and lose the dunk contest.  Nobody has enjoyed a dunk contest since Spud Webb and Michael Jordan.
5.  More highlight videos, and Buzz press conferences.
6.  Fewer hokey contests (i.e. talent contest, impersonations, ventriloquist acts, etc).
7.  Maybe ask the family member of the current players stand up and be recognized.
8.  Welcome the recruits and their families to MU (not by name of course).

If you're going to half-a$$ it, don't bother.  An event like Friday's was not up to the standards of our fine program or school.

Biggest thing was the lack of parties Friday night. All they did that night was sit in Humphrey.

TallTitan34

Good.  A recruit shouldn't be picking a school based on parties.

Yeah, I'm honestly happy that we're keeping high-school kids out of trouble when they take official visits to our campus.

Bieberhole69

If recruits want to go to parties take them to parties.  What high school kid wouldn't want to see a college party?

TallTitan34

And what happens when MPD busts the party and the recruit gets a underage drinking ticket?

Not worth it.

dw3dw3dw3

A high school recruit getting busted for something would make us wish for the days of the so called Hiroshima.

Bieberhole69

Eh i think I'd rather take the risk, rather than having them sit in a dorm room all night thinking to themselves how much Marquette blows and then have them head off to a big state school the next weekend for another visit.

This goes back to the whole winning at all costs, or winning while running a clean program argument.

swoopem

I'm with Bieberhole, if the kids want to go out then take them out. I know I was sold on MU after attending a party when I first visited.
Bring back FFP!!!

Hell no! Not with Larry in charge, if that happened on Buzz's watch and the HS kid got busted, you better believe Buzz would be gone.

Since when does MPD bust parties? DPS breaks it up first, thats when you get them out of there.

You mean like that Halloween party two years ago?  Do we really want to go there?

I had a house party busted by MPD.
Nobody was arrested/ticketed, fortunately, but they came and "encouraged" the crowd to disperse forthwith. DPS did not come first.

anyhow, why not give the full on Jesus Shuttlesworth treatment?
Apparently it's happening elsewhere.

"When we got back to the dorms the players had girls set up for us. If you've ever seen the movie "He Got Game" then you'll understand better, but there were three of us and there were three girls there for us. We'd never met these girls before, but they were there for us.

I won't go in to all the details, but let's just say we had a great time with them and they were saying the whole time that we should come to the school and it could be like this all the time. "

Just because it's happening elsewhere doesn't mean we need to associate ourselves with it.  If it costs us a few recruits, so be it.
