I have periodically looked at this video during the offseason and am convinced Juan will breakout this year.

As long as we're running a lay-up drill against high schoolers, you're probably right.

I have busted on Juan of late only to get other Scoop posters riled up.  I root for him, but my expectations are low.

nycwarrior

How bout we all hope Juan kills it this year?

Honestly, what possible purpose does a statement like this serve.  Does it make you feel better about yourself?

The point is that this video does not lend a shred of evidence that Juan will "break out" this season. Could have made the same hypothesis last season. Hypothesis dismissed.

I watched this video before Juan came on campus, thought he would contribute very much as a freshman. Highlight videos show nothing but positives and no negatives. I sincerely hope Juan has a breakout year, as I did for Jones, but I know its a definate possibility he won't.

Agreed. I am more concerned about him making a full recovery with his shoulder and then worrying about his progress and potential second.

AZWarrior

Look.  He's going to be a stud.

And I, for one, am absolutely looking forward to watching him this coming season, as he demonstrates that studly-ness.   ;D
All this talk of rights.  So little talk of responsibilities.

jeffreyweee

I agree he'll be huge for us but not this year. That injury is going to hold back his strength training which is the main reason he wasn't able to contribute as a freshman.

NersEllenson

As much as we loved Joe Fulce - Juan Anderson showed me as much as a freshman as Joe Fulce showed me as a Senior.  Juan has a lot of tools in his toolbox - I don't think we'll see a breakout year this year - just due to so much time off with the shoulder injury - not being able to lift etc.  However, see him being a really nice player his junior and senior year.  Great basketball IQ. Versatile.  Always around the ball. Also has had a great attitude and enthusiasm toward MU...sounds a lot like the Joe Fulce we got to know as a junior/senior.

What if Juan was red-shirted this year. Might be better for him and for his career at Marquette. He's still a winner and there's a long history of guys who came here and had break-out seasons after their freshman year.

Do we need his this year as much as we might three years from now?

Hards Alumni

won't happen.  Red shirts are for freshman or injured players.

Though, Amal McCaskill did redshirt as a soph.  Can happen.

What was wrong with Fulce?  High energy, positive guy who had to deal with debilitating knee injuries.  Why wouldn't you love him?

Nothing is wrong with Fulce. Funny guy. If he was a better player there would be more love.

Agree. Minus his injuries, Joe might have been a star at MU (he was better than JFB at their JC). In spite of his misfortunes, he was courageous and a real leader. I'll be tha second to officially raise my hand for Joe.

bobnoxious

Gonna raise my hand as well for Mr Fulce

I think you need to do a recount. I loved Fulce. The problem was never him not being a good enough player, it was him being slowed by injuries. When he was out there, no one gave more to the program. I think back to that OT game in Cincy and there's no way we win it without Fulce. Had he been healthy, I fully believe he would have made the league ahead of JFB. Talking with members of the coaching staff, they said that when it came to athletic ability, Fulce was by far the most athletic guy on the team. And this conversation took place a few years ago and the guys he was being compared to included Jerel McNeal, Jimmy Butler, Lazar Hayward, Wes Matthews, and Dominic James.

NersEllenson

Joe definitely was hurt by the debilitating knee injuries - but maximized the potential his body gave him.  That says winner to me.  Thankfully for Juan, he hasn't had knee issues..and hopefully he never does.  Give him a couple of years to develop and he'll be a very nice player at MU.  Maybe not a superstar....but absolutely a contributor.  Joe Fulce contributed as a senior - and Juan still has 3 years left and 2 good knees, and a similar attitude - should bode well.  Absolutely a glue guy at minimum.

I was also a fan of fulce. And add me to the list that is a fan of Juan as well. He had a rough beginning with last yrs brewers issue and injury. I look for him to contribute this yr. players do get better and can improve. I believe he does this. Who knows how good he'll be but he has my support.

JamilJaeJamailJrJuan

Juan is my guy. Had a tough freshman year but i expect big things in the future. Hasnt had a chance to get comfortable yet. Hell contribute this year and be a very good player as an upperclassmen.  Mark it down.

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

Fulce fan and Juan fan here, I hope this is Juan's year to really stand out, but agree that due to injuries he may still be one year away.

Was and still am all about Mark Anglovar.
