Damn.

Money is on Indiana getting something similar in 2 years.
SS Marquette

Can't believe the small TV in the lounge area.  What is that a 32 inch?  I got a bigger on in my house.  What a dump!

National Champs

Cal was taking a risk opening the closets in the dorm room. There could have easily been a pile of money behind any one of those doors.

I don't begrudge Kentucky.  That's essentially NBA ball that happens to be played for 1 year by the top college kids in the country.  Did you notice that the reference to 'going to class' was in the last 30 seconds?  Of course we can't compete with that or any other big state school where college basketball is essentially the state's only pro spectator sport.

Make no mistake about it. Kentucky is a PRO team that very carefully reads the NCAA rulebook and gets as close to the line as it possibly can for the sole purpose of producing national champions.  Gentlemen, that's just not our mission.  And I'm perfectly fine with that.

mileskishnish72

KY players are there so briefly, why don't they just use a hotel?

🏀

Wow...just wow...

1.) Sweet shirt, Cal.
2.) Their own little two-story palace in the parking lot of the practice center? I'm all for a nice place for the student athletes, but complete seclusion from the general population, this is too much. Shocked they didn't build a moat and a drawbridge around this thing.
3.) Own dining area? Hope there no jam or cream cheese being provided for those bagels.
4.) How is this not considered above and beyond the benefits of a normal scholarship? This is insane.

jsglow

And let me add just one more thing.

Do you think for a moment that there isn't a 'ladies auxiliary' that services that facility under the watchful eye of Auntie?

'Nuff said.

Dr. Blackheart

UK's version of "the stewardship of university resources".

Chicago_inferiority_complexes

Great use of taxpayer dollars.

And please don't bullsh!t me about how no taxpayer dollars could have possibly been connected to this.

They clarified that in the caption under the video.

"CoachCal.com takes you on the first public tour of UK's brand new, state-of-the-art Wildcat Coal Lodge, which serves as the dormitory for UK's men's basketball team in addition to other UK students."

Man, it would be sweet to be one of the two other students to win the lottery to get the room reserved for regular students.

Yo, Alex Poythress, if you want to be a pro, learn to tie your shoes before they start shooting the video.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Probably just team managers

Why didn't he walk around the corner at the end of the video so we could see the cars parked in the parking lot?

3 BMW's, 4 Benz's...

Or the traditional walk-ons to keep the graduation rates up.

Humm, Wildcat Coal Lodge for my digs, and a seat on the floor for all Kentucky home and away games.  I'd gladly pay $43,000 a year for that.  Plus, I'd be able to take college courses for free!

Kentucky's basketball program is swimming in alum donations. They don't need any taxpayer money. They make the Blue and Gold Fund seem like pikers.

That parking lot is not for student parking!  It is used by University of Kentucky employees only!  Occasionally, in their hurry to get to work they leave the their keys in their cars and forget to take their cars home after work.  There are no NCAA regulations regarding what cars university employees can drive to work or whether they have to remember to take them home at night.

How can any school compete with that? Four-star hotel living, never have to go to class, never have to associate with the student riff-raff. It was funny when Cal said the players could to the pool-table room to "study."

Canned Goods n Ammo

You know, those seem awesome, and I get why guys are attracted to that.

However, being so insulated from the rest of the student body would kind of suck. In my opinion, they are missing out on part of what makes college great.

With this said, UK is basically minor league basketball and doesn't have that much to do with college I suppose.

I actually like how ND does it. It wouldn't work at every school, but I think the players need to keep at least some exposure to the regular student body.

mr.MUskie

Where would you expect guys who are going to be millionaires next year to live?

Right, because that basketball team doesn't bring any money into the University.

So apparently, having their own private chef with food available 24/7 is part of a meal plan.

As is a deli case with free drinks?
