With TJ Taylor leaving we are now officially 2 'ships down by my count.  Assuming one goes to Thomas, what are the odds we pick up another player this late?  If we get someone, who is most likely?

I would say the odds are none. Otherwise they would have been interested in the player that decommitted from Kansas, who MU originally recruited. My guess is that Swanson gets the other scholarship for a year. I know someone is going to say we should hold it for a mid-season transfer, but the possibilty of having a player that is good enough for MU to want him at mid-season is pretty low. I also expect that Buzz told Swanson he would give him a scholarship, if one was unused. Also, using that scholarship means we do not have a scholarship available next year for Nunn, without oversigning.

It doesn't sound like we are in on any new players for 2012-13. I agree that Thomas will most likely get one and I would assume Buzz will leave the last one open in the event of a mid-season transfer. It's possible the last one could go to Garrett Swanson.

More likely the open scholarships will simply go to the 2013 class. If Otule is back, we have one remaining scholarship open for that class, though it seems like we are recruiting for two openings. Obviously Nunn and the myriad shooting guards look to be the top target, but we've also put a push on for centers like Shepherd, Washington, and others. That goes with Buzz's philosophy of not stopping recruiting, and would also protect us in case either Otule wasn't granted a sixth year or we saw a scholarship player depart after next season.

Of course, the biggest worry here becomes injuries. While Otule and Juan both look to be back, we would be down to 9 true scholarship players without them. One or two more injuries could really put this team in a bind. The combination of Jamail transferring out and TJ changing his mind may not have much impact on the starting lineup, but could definitely have a major impact on this team's depth, especially if injury woes pile up early.

I think that is a valid concern, but at some point you have to stop filling the last open scholarship with Mbao's of the world. Leave the scholarship open, if you do not think the player can actually contribute. Besides that with Thomas and Swanson we still would have 11 players for practice.

Oh, I agree completely. I didn't want a guy like Milton Doyle just because we had a vacancy, because it ties you up for a couple years. But I'd love to see a senior transfer added, someone who could play immediately and give us one year. Even if it's a guy who would be 9th or 10th off the bench, it would add some experience and help in practice and depth if needed. That said, I'm not sure who is still available this late in the process.

Well, if I have a correct understanding of the NCAA regulations, they would have to be added by midnight Tuesday since that is Marquette's stated add/drop date.  I doubt that will happen.
