The LA Times has reported that neither Laker draft pick will likely make the roster. That was in one of the half dozen Dwight Howard stories today in the paper

Makes sense, just didn't know if it was for sure. Duhon is a stellar third option at PG behind Nash and Blake, while Meeks fill the role of a shooter off the bench. Have to think his Combine numbers will give DJO a shot, at the very least in the D-League.

We covered the summer league extensively on cracked sidewalks and the first few games were so bad it was pretty clear they weren't going to keep him. Sacre actually was given more consideration than djo. The owner had to be prompted a couple of times to even mention him, his head coach never mentioned him when interviewed, and his summer league coach had him down to a couple of minutes.

Hopefully there is a new setting where he thrives, but virtually every team passed on him in the draft, so with a bad showing it may be he can go out and show potential In D-league and then latch on.

Let's be real here. I think many here suffer from "homer syndrome." Though we are loyal supporters of guys who performed well for us and are alumni let's remember what it takes to get to the next level. It's much smaller world in the NBA as opposed to college ball. Fewer openings and a lot more competition.

DJO is/was a great guy for Marquette but he isn't an NBA guard, at least not yet. Streaky shooter at best. Not a real scorer in a pro sense. Size is suspect. Needs to play smarter. Lots to learn before he gets a real shot. There are a lot of DJO "type" guys out there. Not a shooting guard, especially at the NBA three line. Point guard??? Too many questions and didn't shine when he had a chance.

Hey, gotta play your way into the league and he didn't, so far. If he didn't wear Marquette colors would you objectively be as supportive of his play??? Really and truely??

Heck, Jae's going to have to work very hard to stick and I think he has a much better chance of NBA success than DJO. But it won't be easy for him, either.

That was a terrible post.
Ford was a mcdonalda AA and one of the top players 5-10 high schoolers in the country.  He then led Texas to the Final 4 as a freshman.  Similar to a brad beal, austin rivers, teague, etc. those guys get drafted really highly.  Whethr they have good pro careers or not has nothing to do with DJO

after watching the Lakers-Heat game in Vegas (where Miami almost doubled the score) I'm surprised any member of that Laker team makes it to camp.  
DJO shot 23% from the field.  14% from three.
The team shot 35% and 23%.  Plus only 9 assists per game and 16 turnovers.

After the Howard trade, the Lakers now have a 13-player payroll of nearly $98M. Paying a couple 2nd round picks an additional $1M between them to sit on the end of the bench wouldn't make sense. DJO would have had to be LIGHTS OUT in the Summer League to even have a chance to make the team. Someone else will likely give him a preseason shot.

There are not many guards in college that could match DJO"s strength and athleticism. If you look at DJO's career he did not fare well against teams that had a strong guard to guard him. Georgetown before last year and Vanderbilt are teams whose guards he struggled against.  In the pros almost every guard is bigger than him and have strength and athleticism.

Wes Matthews didn't get a contract from the Kings after playing for their summer league team in 2009. His play did, however, earn him a tryout with the Jazz, and the rest is history.
Not saying the same will happen for DJO, of course, but this isn't the end of the world either.

I added the green for you. Ford was GREAT as a rookie and was serviceable even after injuries derailed his career. Ford was a special talent that made passes that you couldn't see coming even with the advantage of a TV angle.
